He isn't wrong, "Jack of all trades" is a good description for .308, whereas 6.5 Creedmoor is much better for precision/target shooting and there's a whole plethora of hunting calibers.

Where he seems to miss the point is that:

Yes, you can get better accuracy at long range or drop bigger animals harder at close range, but .308 isn't exactly bouncing harmlessly off a deer's hide. It absolutely wrecks within ~500yd and most hunters don't even take shots that far out.

.308 is going to be much cheaper to buy than any other full power rifle caliber. Even if you hand load you are looking at way more variety and availability of projectiles than anything else. You can even use milsurp 7.62 NATO ball ammunition which pops up dirt cheap from time to time and often has reloadable brass.

All of this is like saying there are better pistol calibers than 9mm. No shit. Of course there are. But there are no calibers that are as universal, cheap to shoot with the same level of availability and ubiquity. If you don't mind rolling your own ammo or paying far more then you can shoot another caliber with no economies of scale that is marginally better, but most people will stick to to well beaten path and benefit from that instead.
