Don't get me wrong, I love Colonel Quaritch as a character and Stephen Lang pretty much carried the movie all on his own, but as a leader within the context of the film, he was supremely arrogant, unimaginative, and incredibly stupid. He let his bloodlust and personal feud with Sully cloud his judgement to an extraordinary degree and even the RDA corporate suits holding his leash were starting to realize it by the end.
