i'm renting a room from a live-in landlord rn and he's pretty open about the fact that the reason he picked me over the others is because i seemed cool and fun lol it's kind of crazy but soft skills go a long way in this housing market.

this is pretty standard for europe honestly. i've lived in four different EU countries and the housing market is fucked in all of them. we just didn't build enough for the population growth in urban areas we experienced in the past few decades. at least where i live now landlords don't typically ask about your income, in the last country i was in they're really strict about not renting to you if you earn less than three times the monthly rent.

i still hope to do it in about five years' time so i have a place to live when i hit retirement age but it's an investment. most anglo countries are buyers' markets (if i lived in the UK or somewhere i'd definitely aspire to home ownership) but this gets less true the further east you go.
