Huh? Muslims believe God spoke also through the Torah (Tawrat) and the Psalms (Zabur), hence through the Hebrew language, then through the Gospels or Gospel of Christ (Injil), the earliest known documents of which are in Koine Greek; and also by obvious implication to the divinely sent messenger and Messiah Jesus, who spoke Aramaic as well. So we have Hebrew, Koine Greek, and Aramaic as languages standard Islam clearly implies the word of God must have been spoken through formerly.

It is standard Islamic teaching that former peoples indeed received the “creed of salvation” by divine inspiration, with Islam being not a revolution against this but the manifestation of the primordial monotheistic tradition that was always there (latent in the innate disposition of the human being itself, the natural disposition, innate nature, or fitrah.) So it is not “God only speaking in one language,” nor against His creed being universally spread.

By a stricter rationalism, both the average Muslim and the average Christian are on shaky grounds regardless of whether they believe Jesus was slain on the cross or was not slain on the cross. Both are equally taking something on faith. Not much of a leg to stand on here to say that one claim is more absurd than the other, when they are both faith-based (whether in the versions of the Gospels we have access to today, or in the Quran).

Here you can bring up an obvious seeming contradiction. “Didn’t you say Islam taught that the Torah, Psalms, and Gospels are former divinely inspired texts? Then how can the Quran contradict what the Gospels say on Jesus’s death?” That is actually a good question. Islam teaches that tahrif (distortion) of the former texts occurred over time, and hence Muhammad was coming to restate in its perfection this eternal teaching. It is not denying whatever was of value and true in those religions as they developed from those former revelations; only saying that some distortions had occurred in their messages over time.

Muhammad began preaching monotheism and against the polytheistic idolatry in Arabia, which caused him and his followers to face violent persecution by the pre-Islamic Arabian polytheists, driving them to flee to Medina, before they returned to fight and conquer the polytheists at Mecca.
