Practical philosophies are not things you can go through your life neglecting and then just pick them up when needed. What you're asking is akin to reading about Buddhism and saying,

You reach the ideals of these philosophies by constant daily practice. I'm not at home so I can't give you a direct quote but there are many instances in Epictetus' writings where he specifically instructs you to make a constant effort to train yourself in Stoic ideals. Every time you feel attachment to something, every time you are moved by something outside your power, every time you feel upset by something you can't control, you should be reminding yourself of what's within your power and what isn't, and you should be training yourself to not be concerned with things outside your power.

It's not something that happens overnight. These are not casual, shallow philosophies. Stoicism, practiced properly, is meant to radically transform how you live your life. It's something that requires you to be practicing constantly, every minute of every day. If you're not willing to do this then yes, it's impossible follow Stoic ideals because they are aimed at people willing to devote their lives to following them.
