Yes, to nobody's surprise, literature is informed by other literature to varying degrees, and it wouldn't be out of the realm of reason to bring up certain similar works. The same way that anon brought up Finnegans Wake when talking about the Cantos. Except Pound and Joyce's relationship and "correspondence" (and, as we can see, their works' by no means weak correlation) was relevant to the conversation, and Hemingway and Stein weren't. What are you trying to prove?

Why ought they be disregarded? Because they're popular? Because they're not "immediate"? As if every piece of work needs to supply immediate gratification to be legitimized? Or that there's no substance to things that aren't readily apparent and must in turn have actual effort invested into understanding them? And what's with this fixation on "profundity"? How would you even define "profundity"? What bearing does this "profundity" have on the conversation, or on Pound's and Joyce's works outside of your own understanding of what it means to be "profound"? You say here you care not about profundity, and yet here >>24449185 you assign profundity to Plethon and Nonnus, as if by virtue of that those works are immediately elevated. The only person in this entire thread that has brought up this vague notion of "profundity" has been you. And reading Plethon and Nonnus would be all fine and dandy if the topic of the thread wasn't about modernist poetry as embodied by Pound (and what came after it) (and, by extension, what brought it, and Pound's works, to fruition in the first place, and, more pertinently, how Pound influenced (and was perhaps influenced by) those around him, Joyce included). Again and again, the only one being reductive here is you and your bizarre hatred for popular literary works (they aren't even that popular! FW is practically disregarded by the average reader in contrast to Joyce's first 3, and the Cantos are basically reserved for study or litbro enthusiasts perusal, and are much less relevant than Pound's earlier, shorter works and his extra-literary actions (political and social).
