Women *read*, that's why publishing isn't dead. Their tastes might lean towards romance but romance isn't some exclusive genre. It can easily be fused with something like fantasy/sci-fi which women also clearly enjoy going by the novelists at the Hugo awards.

You do men a disservice with this one-dimensional presentation of our gender. Men have historically enjoyed a wide range of works many of which aren't centered on action and adventure. Look, there's a thread up about Notes from Underground. There's no adventure in that book, it's largely about the social and alienation from it. How many men enjoy No Longer Human for similar reasons? Isn't Murakami's most famous book, Norwegian Wood, about a failed romance?
Focusing on action and adventure is a lost cause because that can always be done better by manga or especially video games and movies. The point isn't to appeal to the lowest common denominator anyway but to reinvigorate men with the literary spirit that our forebears possessed.
