That argument doesn't work when you do a crap job. If you want to make a show that is contrarion and goes against Gundam tropes, then you still need to be SUCCESSFUL at doing it.

By the end of the show the audience needs to think:
>"oh wow. I did not expect that. This whole show has been full of new and creative storytelling never seen before in Gundam. These writers bring new and fresh ideas, and are really great! "

You can't fail and fall flat on your face with shitty storytelling that leaves everyone confused and say "well hurr durr dats da point! Hehehe".

IBO was complete failure. it didn't have great ratings or merchandise sales either. The sales and ratings numbers were poor in both Asian markets AND Western markets.
