it is so definitely not. newtypes aren't mentioned until the last third of the show, and prior to that, any explanation for why amuro has skills or such affinity for mecha is either "he was always a total geek back on side 7" or "he just got good after having to fight for his life numerous times".

the movies do a better job weaving it into the story, like >>23229079 for example, but the original series ignores this "fundamental" part of the franchise's universe until almost the very end

it's funny how gundam is lauded by the normies and retards as this paragon of realistic gritty mecha action when a large part of the show's "lore" is "oooo there are magic space wizards who can pilot robots real good and have floaty conversations about humanity in the middle of space!!!! ooooo!"
