It's from the guy who did FLCL so I think he might be going for some sort of FLCL feeling. Remember when he did a sequel to Gunbuster but made it more like FLCL too?

There is shit and character shit going on though. They're just weird...which you think you'd be used to from watching Tomino anime. But I do agree its really weird and I'm not sure where they're going with if so I'm reserving judgement till its over. I have mixed feelings too
