Hah. It's very similar to a post I've seen before. But I like discussing Brain Powerd regardless.

Impression of Eureka 7 AO is that it's just a bit lower quality than the original, and mostly disconnected from the themes and characters of the original Eureka 7.
I'm honestly out of the loop on why it's hated though. It's a decent show, even if not at the same level of quality as the original.
iirc, E7AO was less a coming of age story like the first and was more about its sci-fi ideas and worldbuilding (and then it had some odd meta references to other anime like Evangelion).
But Eureka 7 AO has some things about it that remind me of Brain Powerd. Most of it takes place around the pacific ocean/pacific islands, for example. Some incidental details like the way the anti-gravity tech is depicted visually, things like that.
Also has something to do with the pacing and tone.
At any rate I think E7AO is more similar to Brain Powerd than the original show, and would recommend it if you're specifically looking for something similar to Brain Powerd.

Gargantia on the Verdous planet should be an obvious one, if you haven't seen it. Although it's only superficially similar.

Brain Powerd is one of my favorite shows, and in a bit I'll take a moment to sit down and really get a good list of reccs. I can think of some more obscure recommendations some /m/en might not know.
