You're doing the writer's job for them to make the story make more sense.
Nor Shuji's identity nor, more importantly, his reality bending time jannie powers aren't adressed in the show.

It fails to be anything for "new generation" because it requires knowledge of the boomer gundam shows to even comprehend what is going on in the first place.
Machu is likeable but her storyline is very by the numbers; Shuji is barely a character and their "love story" was genuinely terrible. Like, I do not understand how anyone can think that his was good.
And Nyaan is one of the worst, most pointless characters I've ever seen in general.
It's like half of the show is targeted at boomers and the other half at newfags.

The pacing issue has been talked to death so I'm not even gonna bring it up.
The nicest thing I can say about it is that it was clearly produced by the people who care about gundam, but as a story on it's own it completely shits the bed.
