Self-servicing and irrelevant.
There's two knocks going against /opg/ as a thread when viewed in isolation from its source material, and both of them are strictly a surface-level image "problem" for those looking to get upset by things which don't matter:

1) Even if happenings and developments in-game are often on the same level of wild creativity and genuine artistry as seen in some of the most beloved generals on /mlp/, those on the outside could see them as:
>"That furry game which doesn't belong here because it isn't explicitly made for us and us alone"
without realizing just how much of an insanely open ended sandbox this game can really be.
2) Most of the creative process behind designing new cosmetics/outfits/models/animations/settings/locations/etc/ simply isn't documented here, furthering the misconceived perception that we're playing with prepackaged assets, rather than actively building the world ourselves and tailoring it to our tastes.

It's mostly the first one which I feel brings the majority of the knee-jerk, albeit unfairly.
Many creations directly and indirectly stemming from /opg/, as well as the continued popularity of OpenPony as a base for aspiring creators to build upon, are legitimately impressive and deserving of praise. But since the core of SL wasn't specifically built for us, the board of /mlp/ by Anon from /mlp/, somehow none of those accomplishments "really count". It's stupid holier-than-thou gymnastics, basically.
