They're more on the hardcore side of things. I know hardcore has been co-opted into the larger metal scene and that 99 percent of people don't give a fuck and aren't gatekeeping autists, but that is only because metal is kind of boring and hardly anyone is doing iron maiden, judas priest, or metallica levels of interesting and captivating material that keeps you interested and invested in the modern day. I'm talking purely or mostly metal. Some metalheads like to think they're republican tough guys and maybe they are, but the overwhelming majority are kind of left leaning so it would make sense that they would have liberal views on what constitutes metal, they just go "ha ha, guitar go chug, guitar sound heavy and I like" with their mo key brain so they don't care if it has core influences, they just think it sounds heavy so it must be metal. Even metalcore has lost its definition over the years, is bring me the horizon really metalcore? When the fuck did alternative metal become lumped in with metalcore? Metalcore is hardcore punk bands playing a more metal version of hardcore punk, embracing their metal influences, not half baked metal bands. They've been lumped in with metal because they actually are interesting and pushing their own material forward, trying something different, but they are not metal.
