he was a kid when he started out, big deal. you're probably a zoomer, but if you're not, are you the same person you were at 20? is it not the received opinion of rightoids everywhere that your values shift as you age and take on responsibilities? this idea that dylan should've remained a village folksinger for the rest of his life is preposterous and anti-art, even if he thought it was the coolest thing as a young man (when the "scene" was buzzing, mind you) and it was the right thing for him at that time. and i'd argue that of all major 20th c. artists dylan has made the fewest "calculated maneuvers" of them all; the last one was probably 40 yrs ago
