MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — X Corp., the social media platform owned by Trump adviser Elon Musk, is challenging the constitutionality of a Minnesota ban on using deepfakes to influence elections and harm candidates, saying it violates First Amendment speech protections.
The company’s federal lawsuit filed this week also contends that the 2023 state law is preempted by a 1996 federal statute that shields social media from being held responsible for material posted on their platforms.
“While the law’s reference to banning ‘deep fakes’ might sound benign, in reality it would criminalize innocuous, election-related speech, including humor, and make social-media platforms criminally liable for censoring such speech,” the company said in a statement. “Instead of defending democracy, this law would erode it.”
Minnesota’s law imposes criminal penalties — including jail time — for disseminating a deepfake video, image or audio if a person knows it’s fake, or acts with reckless disregard to its authenticity, either within 90 days before a party nominating convention, or after the start of early voting in a primary or general election.
It says the intent must be to injure a candidate or influence an election result. And it defines deepfakes as material so realistic that a reasonable person would believe it’s real, and generated by artificial intelligence or other technical means.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The FBI on Friday arrested a Milwaukee judge accused of helping a man evade immigration authorities, escalating a clash between the Trump administration and local authorities over the Republican president’s sweeping immigration crackdown.
Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan is accused of escorting the man and his lawyer out of her courtroom through the jury door last week after learning that immigration authorities were seeking his arrest. The man was taken into custody outside the courthouse after agents chased him on foot.
President Donald Trump’s administration has accused state and local officials of interfering with his immigration enforcement priorities. The arrest also comes amid a growing battle between the administration and the federal judiciary over the president’s executive actions over deportations and other matters.
Dugan was taken into custody by the FBI on Friday morning on the courthouse grounds, according to U.S. Marshals Service spokesperson Brady McCarron. She appeared briefly in federal court in Milwaukee later Friday before being released from custody. She faces charges of “concealing an individual to prevent his discovery and arrest” and obstructing or impeding a proceeding.
Day 40 of the 30 day military operation in Yemen
https://www.npr.org/2025/04/25/nx-s1-5377192/houthis-reaper-drones-us-military-yemen
WASHINGTON — Houthi rebels in Yemen have shot down seven U.S. Reaper drones in less than six weeks, a loss of aircraft worth more than $200 million in what is becoming the most dramatic cost to the Pentagon of the military campaign against the Iran-backed militants.
According to defense officials, three of the drones were shot down in the past week — suggesting the militants' targeting of the unmanned aircraft flying over Yemen has improved. The drones were doing attack runs or conducting surveillance, and they crashed both into the water and onto land, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss military operations.
The U.S. has increased its attacks on the Houthis, launching daily strikes since March 15, when President Donald Trump ordered a new, expanded campaign. He promised to use "overwhelming lethal force" until the Houthis cease their attacks on shipping along a vital maritime corridor. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/trump-admin-responds-minnesotas-lawsuit-let-trans-athletes-girls-sports-creepy-anti-women

George Santos, the former Republican congressman from New York whose outlandish fabrications and criminal schemes fueled an unforeseen rise and spectacular fall, was sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison on Friday.
His 87-month sentence was a severe corrective to a turbulent period in which Mr. Santos was catapulted from anonymity to political and pop cultural infamy, a national spotlight that, even when negative, he often relished more than rejected.
Mr. Santos pleaded guilty last year to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. He acknowledged his involvement in a variety of other deceptions, including lying to Congress, fraudulently collecting unemployment benefits and bilking campaign donors out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Sitting before Judge Joanna Seybert in Federal District Court in Central Islip, N.Y., a teary Mr. Santos, 36, seemed far removed from the swaggering politician whose lies — that he was a college volleyball star and a Wall Street financier with ties to the Holocaust and Sept. 11, to name a few — turned him into a national punchline and led to mocking impersonations on “Saturday Night Live.”
His voice trembling, Mr. Santos told the judge that he had “betrayed the confidence entrusted to me” by the American people. “I cannot rewrite the past,” he said, but “I can control the road ahead.”
He asked for a lenient sentence to have time to “let me prove that I can still contribute positively to the community I wronged.”

Voters believe President Trump is overreaching with his aggressive efforts to expand executive power, and they have deep doubts about some of the signature pieces of his agenda, a New York Times/Siena College poll found.
The turbulent early months of Mr. Trump’s administration are seen as “chaotic” and “scary” by majorities of voters — even many who approve of the job he is doing. Voters do not view him as understanding the problems in their daily lives and have soured on his leadership as he approaches his 100th day in office.
Mr. Trump’s approval rating sits at 42 percent. His standing is historically low for a president this early in a term, but it is in line with his stubborn unpopularity, which did not prevent him from sweeping the battleground states in last year’s election.
Now, however, voters express dimming confidence about Mr. Trump’s handling of some of the top issues that propelled him back to the White House, including the economy and immigration, even as most Americans support deportations. Only 43 percent said they approved of how he has managed the economy this term, a serious erosion on an issue long seen as a strength.
The president’s pursuit of widespread tariffs — which has caused stock-market drops and gyrations — was opposed by 55 percent of voters, including 63 percent of independents.
Taken together, the survey’s findings show that any second-term honeymoon for Mr. Trump is over. His approval rating among crucial independent voters is now at a woeful 29 percent. https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-pop-culture/pedro-pascal-jk-rowling-transgender-harry-potter-rcna202801

A senior official describes the billionaire as an awkward and obnoxious asshole.
As a member of the public, it’s been pretty unbearable to watch Elon Musk take a front-and-center role in the new Trump administration. A preening, awkward spectacle of greed, stupidity, and self-importance, it’s easy to feel somewhat nauseated by the billionaire. According to a new report, high-level members of the Trump administration feel the same way.
Rolling Stone claims that senior Trump officials have characterized the billionaire as incredibly unfunny, radically annoying, “crazy,” and potentially in need of regular, mandatory drug tests. The outlet reports:
Some senior Trump administration officials and Cabinet members have found themselves deeply annoyed by Musk. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, three people familiar with the matter say, hasn’t hidden his disdain for Musk, with some State Department officials nicknaming the Tesla billionaire “Crazy Uncle Elon,” two of those sources tell Rolling Stone.
The same officials told the magazine that the billionaire has irritated cabinet members so much that they have wondered whether he’s on drugs:
Musk has gnawed at the patience of an array of high-ranking administration officials, to the point that — according to this official and two others — Trump lieutenants have walked out of meetings and earnestly asked one another if they thought Musk was high. Administration officials joked to one another about subjecting Musk to mandatory drug testing, which Musk himself has said would be a “great idea” for federal employees.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/13/business/china-rare-earths-exports.html
China has suspended exports of a wide range of critical minerals and magnets, threatening to choke off supplies of components central to automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies and military contractors around the world.
Shipments of the magnets, essential for assembling everything from cars and drones to robots and missiles, have been halted at many Chinese ports while the Chinese government drafts a new regulatory system. Once in place, the new system could permanently prevent supplies from reaching certain companies, including American military contractors.
The official crackdown is part of China’s retaliation for President Trump’s sharp increase in tariffs that started on April 2.
On April 4, the Chinese government ordered restrictions on the export of six heavy rare earth metals, which are refined entirely in China, as well as rare earth magnets, 90 percent of which are produced in China. The metals, and special magnets made with them, can now be shipped out of China only with special export licenses.

Video of Bill Maher Revealing Details of His Dinner With Trump Goes Viral
Comedian and television host Bill Maher revealed on Friday the details of his recent dinner with President Donald Trump in an attempt to emphasize the need for civil discourse rather than "hurling insults from 3,000 miles away."
Newsweek reached out by email on Saturday morning, outside of normal business hours, to Maher and Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) for comment.
Why It Matters
Maher, host of HBO's weekly talk show Real Time With Bill Maher, has often spoken out against Trump over the years, making him the butt of jokes. Trump, in return, has often lambasted Maher, calling him "overrated" and "ratings challenged." Just before the dinner took place, Trump posted on Truth Social that Maher has been "unjustifiably critical of anything or anyone TRUMP."
Last month, Maher compared extreme adulation for Trump by his die-hard supporters to that of North Koreans praising their leader Kim Jong-Un. Maher also said that in a hypothetical rematch election between Trump and former President Joe Biden, he would "vote for Biden's head in a jar of blue liquid versus Donald Trump."
The comedian has also been critical of "woke" progressives, describing himself as an "old-school liberal." He has repeatedly raised concerns about the left and what he and many others describe as "cancel culture." He touts dialogue between political factions as important and maintains friendships with prominent conservatives, who he also features on his show.
Chipmaker Nvidia said it is building new factories that can produce its AI supercomputers entirely on U.S. soil as trade war tensions build with top chipmaking countries such as China and Taiwan.
Nvidia is working with Taiwanese electronics manufacturers Foxconn and Wistron to build two supercomputer factories in Houston and Dallas, the company announced Monday, and “Mass production at both plants is expected to ramp up in the next 12-15 months.”
The U.S. chipmaker said it is already producing its Blackwell chips, which provide capacity for generative AI and accelerated computing, at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) factory in Phoenix.
Nvidia expects the investment to result in “hundreds of thousands of jobs and drive trillions of dollars in economic security over the coming decades,” according to a news release.
The Trump administration is touting the news of building U.S. supercomputer factories as a win in its efforts to boost domestic manufacturing.

A Wisconsin teenager allegedly killed his parents as part of a plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, federal authorities said in newly unsealed court documents.
Nikita Casap, 17, called for the assassination of the president and overthrow of the US government in written documents and text messages found by investigators, according to a federal affidavit obtained by CNN affiliate WISN. The alleged killing of his parents appeared to be an effort to attain the “financial means and autonomy” to carry out his plan, investigators said.
Casap faces nine felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of hiding a corpse, according to the Waukesha County court docket.
Investigators are also pursing three federal charges: presidential assassination, conspiracy and use of weapons of mass destruction, according to the affidavit.
CNN has reached out to Casap’s attorneys for comment. He has not entered pleas on any of the charges yet, according to county records.
His mother, Tatiana Casap, and his stepfather, Donald Mayer, were both found dead inside their home from gunshot wounds. Authorities believe they were killed on February 11. The WaKeeney Police Department in Kansas initially arrested Casap for stealing his stepfather’s SUV and possessing a firearm.

CDC denies help for lead poisoning in Milwaukee schools due to layoffs

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has rejected a request from health officials in Milwaukee for help with a lead poisoning investigation, after Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. eliminated the agency's response team.
"I sincerely regret to inform you that due to the complete loss of our Lead Program, we will be unable to support you with this," Aaron Bernstein, director of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, told city officials April 3 in an email obtained by CBS News.
Officials in Milwaukee and Wisconsin's state health department had formally requested the CDC's help on March 26, after many of the city's schools were found to have "significant lead hazards" exposing children. Federal experts were asked to help develop a strategy to test and triage Milwaukee public school students for lead poisoning, as well as help with outreach to the community.
"This only underscores the importance of the role local public health plays in protecting communities — and the challenges we now face without federal expertise to call on," Caroline Reinwald, a spokesperson for the City of Milwaukee Health Department, said in a statement to CBS News on Thursday.
Children exposed to lead can face serious harm to their brain and nervous system, including slowing their development and causing problems with their hearing and speech.
Most of Milwaukee's schools were built before 1978, local health officials said in their initial request to the CDC for help, before lead-based paint was banned in the U.S. Inspections of some schools has turned up "significant lead hazards," they said.

The Trump administration late Friday said it would exclude electronics such as smartphones and laptops from its recent tariffs, a move that could help keep the prices down for popular consumer electronics that aren’t usually made in the U.S.
It would also benefit big tech companies such as Apple and Samsung and chip makers like Nvidia.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said items including smartphones, laptops, hard drives, flat-panel monitors and some chips would qualify for the exemption. Machines used to make semiconductors are excluded too. That means they won’t be subject to the current 145% tariffs levied on China or the 10% baseline tariffs elsewhere.
It’s the latest tariff change by the Trump administration, which has made several U-turns in its massive plan to put tariffs in place on goods from most countries. President Trump has said that one of his main goals is to encourage more domestic manufacturing. But the exemptions seem to acknowledge that the current electronics supply chain is virtually all in Asia and it would be challenging to shift that to the United States. For example, about 90% of iPhones are produced and assembled in China, according to Wedbush Securities.
The announcement removes “a huge black cloud overhang for now over the tech sector and the pressure facing U.S. Big Tech,” Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives said in a research note.
Trump previously said he would consider exempting some companies from tariffs.
Neither Apple nor Samsung responded to a request for comment early Saturday. Nvidia declined to comment.

Man Charged With Trump and Musk Assassination Threats: What to Know
Federal authorities have charged a man with making online threats to assassinate President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk.
The Context
Trump, who survived multiple assassination attempts during the 2024 presidential campaign, has received numerous death threats. The failed attempts against his life prompted a heightening of his Secret Service protection, which the agency said following November's election would "be maintained moving forward."
Musk has likewise received threats. The Tesla CEO, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency and has overseen budget cuts and mass layoffs in the federal government, has been the subject of widespread protests in recent months.
What To Know
Shawn Monper, 32, was detained and charged with four counts of "making threats to assault and murder" against Trump, Musk and other government officials, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, the Department of Justice said on Friday.

Say it with me Trumptards: “Illegal immigration is actually good!”
President Donald Trump has proposed that undocumented immigrants employed in sectors such as agriculture and hospitality could self-deport and return legally, provided their employers vouched for them.
Trump has vowed to carry out the largest mass deportation operation in U.S. history to address illegal immigration and border security. However, the policy has sparked concerns about its potential effects on the economy.
Agricultural production could fall by $30 billion to $60 billion if Trump's cornerstone policy is implemented, according to the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC). It is estimated that 4 million to 5 million undocumented immigrants work in U.S. agriculture, meaning millions of migrants could be allowed to return to the country under the new proposal.
On Thursday, Trump said at a Cabinet meeting, "We have to take care of our farmers, the hotels and, you know, the various places where they tend to, where they tend to need people."
"So a farmer will come in with a letter concerning certain people, saying they're great, they're working hard. We're going to slow it down a little bit for them, and then we're going to ultimately bring them back. They'll go out. They're going to come back as legal workers," he continued.
The meaning behind his remark to "slow it down a little bit for them" remained unclear. At the same time, the administration has intensified efforts to arrest, detain and deport undocumented immigrants, in line with Trump's pledge to launch a historic mass deportation campaign. I REPEAT

A leaked document shows that vested interests may have been behind a “mud-slinging” PR campaign to discredit a landmark environment study, according to an investigation.
The Eat-Lancet Commission study, published in 2019, set out to answer the question: how can we feed the world’s growing population without causing catastrophic climate breakdown?
The report recommended that if global red meat eating was cut by 50%, the “planetary health diet” would provide nutritious food to all while tackling the harms caused by animal agriculture, which accounts for over 14% of all greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. It suggested individuals – particularly in wealthy countries – should increase their consumption of nuts, pulses and other plant-based foods while cutting meat and sugar from their diets.
It may have seemed like a fairly straightforward proposal but the backlash was ferocious, with researchers receiving personal threats and insults. Thousands of negative posts were shared on Twitter (now X), and more than 500 articles were published criticising the report.
A leaked document seen by the climate website DeSmog reveals that helping to fuel this backlash was a PR firm, Red Flag, which represented the Animal Agriculture Alliance, a meat and dairy industry coalition set up to protect the sector against “emerging threats”, and which has staff from Cargill and Smithfield Foods – two of the world’s five largest meat companies – on its board.
DeSmog has seen a document from the PR firm which states: “In the two weeks following publication of the Eat-Lancet report, this campaign’s messages have continued to demonstrate remarkable success. Key stories returned time and again in traditional and social media to reach major online influencers, particularly highlighting the radical nature of the Eat-Lancet diet and hypocrisy criticisms levelled at the Eat f

The showdown, which ended with Haynes beating Smith 6-5, sparked further outcry across social media platforms, with TV personality Piers Morgan branding it "cheating bulls***" and slamming the tournament as "preposterous". Echoing his sentiments, ex-Olympic swimming medallist Sharron Davies condemned the competition as "bloody ridiculous" and decried it as "grossly wrong".
In an outspoken display, one protestor in the venue bellowed: "We stand with Lynne Pinches", a salute to the female competitor who last November chose not to play against Haynes, citing reasons of "fairness".

In a bold new initiative that promises to revolutionize American classrooms with the smoky tang of high-level policy incoherence, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has unveiled her vision for the future: A1-enhanced learning.
"Kids are sponges," McMahon declared at the ASU+GSV Summit, as she glazed the audience in a thick layer of mystification. "They just absorb everything. So why not A1? It’s rich, it's bold, it’s got a long shelf life."
Though some critics have pointed out that "A1" is not, in fact, short for "Artificial Intelligence," but rather a steak sauce, McMahon brushed aside the distinction. "We’re not here to get lost in the labels," she said, gesturing vaguely with a bottle of condiments. "We're here to embrace innovation."
The Supreme Court on Thursday said that the Trump administration is required to "facilitate" the release of a Maryland man who was wrongly deported to an El Salvador prison.
The court partly granted and partly rejected an emergency request filed by the Justice Department contesting a judge’s order that Kilmar Abrego Garcia be retrieved from a prison in El Salvador where he was sent on March 15 along with alleged Venezuelan gang members.
“The rule of law won today. Time to bring him home," Andrew Rossman, one of Abrego Garcia's lawyers, said in an email.
The decision means the administration does not immediately have to try to return Abrego Garcia to the United States because a judge-imposed deadline has already expired but "should be prepared to share what it can concerning the steps it has taken and the prospect of further steps," the unsigned decision said.
The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"One party there were at least 200 people," said Sue Donkersgoed, who lives across the street and is nicknamed "the neighborhood mayor."
After multiple neighbor complaints, a six-year investigation that included a 2023 raid of the Welters Way house reported in the Eden Prairie News has finally resulted in an indictment, charging Luthor and Brown with running a fraud scheme.
The indictment says their business, Golden Victory Medical, offered "neurofeedback therapy" and other medical services and overbilled Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers to the tune of $15 million.

The artwork of the 47th president shows him bloodied with an American flag waving behind him after he survived the assassination attempt last July. A White House spokesperson didn’t immediately return a request for comment about the artist behind the painting. Amid recent travel advisories warning those coming to the United States plus strengthened immigration enforcement, many international travelers are starting to turn away from the U.S. as a destination. Between January and March, foreign arrivals dropped by around 4.4% from those first three months last year, according to data from the National Travel and Tourism Office. In a March year-over-year comparison, that reduction doubles to almost 10%.
At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – consistently ranked the busiest airport in the world and a hub for international connections – 189,973 non-U.S. passengers passed through its terminals between March 1 and April 7, according to data by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Pam Bondi announces seizure of $510M worth of illegal drugs from vessels linked to cartels
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday announced the seizure of roughly $510 million worth of illegal narcotics on vessels headed for the United States, seeking to highlight the government’s efforts to take down sophisticated cartel drug networks.
Bondi traveled to Florida to tout the seizure of cocaine and marijuana by U.S. Coast Guard crews and put a spotlight a key Trump administration priority to go after drug traffickers helping to fuel America’s addiction crisis.
Bondi’s appearance at the south Florida port, standing in front of a Coast Guard ship and stacks of the intercepted drugs, underscores the Trump administration’s efforts to reshape the Justice Department to align with the President Donald Trump’s priorities to crack down on violent crime, illegal immigration and cartels.
Ships, aircraft and drones were used to intercept the traffickers off the coast of Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, according to Bondi, who said the seizures have led to sealed indictments against 11 people.
Bondi said investigators have linked two cartels - Jalisco New Generation and Sinaloa - to the shipments, and described the seizures as a “major blow” to their financial operations. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/carney-plan-border-rcmp-bail-1.7507110 Donald Trump Suffers Quadruple Approval Rating Blow

A group of 77 lawmakers, led by Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas), sent a letter to Trump on Wednesday, emphasizing the tech billionaire can only serve in his role as a special government employee for 130 days.
“Considering the repeated violations of the law by Musk and your administration, we demand an immediate public statement from your administration making clear that Musk will resign and surrender all decision making authority, as required by law, by May 30th,” they wrote.
“In his short time in government, Elon Musk has done enormous harm to working Americans,” they continued, adding, “While millions of Americans are suffering, Musk is continuing to enrich himself and break ethics laws.”

President Donald Trump announced a complete pause on all the “reciprocal” tariffs that went into effect at midnight, with the exception of China.
Tariffs on China will be increased to 125% from 104%, he said.
Trump in a Truth Social post Wednesday said he has “authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately.”
“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown to the World’s Markets, I am hereby raising the Tariff charged to China by the United States of America to 125%, effective immediately,” Trump said in his social media post. “At some point, hopefully in the near future, China will realize that the days of ripping off the U.S.A., and other Countries, is no longer sustainable or acceptable,” he wrote.
Stocks rocketed higher on the news, with the Dow surging 2,200 points, or 5.9%. The S&P 500 rose 6.5% and the Nasdaq was more than 8% higher.
Trump, however, did not indicate he was pausing the 10% universal tariff on all trading partners, with the exception of Canada and Mexico, that went into effect over the weekend. Therefore, countries that were subjects of reciprocal tariffs will continue to have a 10% tariff levied on them.
Panama says it will not renew its agreement involving China’s premier foreign investment program after Panamanian leaders met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, marking another victory for President Trump.
Panama will allow its 2017 trade and development pact involving China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” to expire, said Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino at a press conference Sunday — after months of threats by Trump to take back the Panama Canal, claiming “American ships are being severely overcharged” and accusing China of “operating” the crucial waterway.
Mulino even said he will explore options to see if his country’s involvement in the agreement can end sooner than the one or two years it may take for it.
The “Belt and Road Initiative” — established in 2013 as China’s main project for investing in foreign infrastructure — has ultimately increased its influence around the world.
Mulino said Panama would be interested in the US investing in the country’s infrastructure instead. But the Panamanian president made sure to add that the canal’s sovereignty is still under Panama.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that President Donald Trump is exploring legal pathways to “deport” U.S. citizens to El Salvador, where the administration has already arranged to house deported immigrants in a prison known for its human rights abuses. (Watch the video, above.)
Leavitt suggested the effort would be limited to people who have committed major crimes, but Trump has also mentioned the possibility of sending people who commit lesser offenses abroad.
Any such move on the part of the Trump administration is certain to be challenged in court. It is also not clear what legal authority could be used to justify expelling U.S. citizens from their homeland.
“These would be heinous, violent criminals who have broken our nation’s laws repeatedly. These are violent, repeat offenders on American streets,” Leavitt told reporters at a press briefing.
“The president has said if it’s legal, right, if there is a legal pathway to do that. He’s not sure, [and] we are not sure if there is,” Leavitt continued. “It’s an idea that he has simply floated and has discussed very publicly in the effort of transparency.” https://www.wifr.com/2025/04/08/nearly-250000-raised-defense-17-year-old-accused-stabbing-teen-track-meet/ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised on Monday to eliminate Israel's trade surplus with the United States, a move likely to be closely watched by world leaders as President Donald Trump's tariff policy roils global markets.
"We intend to do it very quickly," Netanyahu said as he sat beside Trump in the White House Oval Office. "We think it's the right thing to do, and we're going to also eliminate trade barriers."
Netanyahu was the first foreign leader to meet with Trump at the White House since the U.S. president announced a sweeping tariff policy last week that has hammered global financial markets and raised concerns of a recession.
The United States, Israel's closest ally and largest single trading partner, last year had a $7.4 billion goods trade deficit with Israel. Under Trump's new policy, Israeli goods face a 17% U.S. tariff.

The Supreme Court vacated a judge’s order temporarily blocking the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) to deport Venezuelans, enabling the administration to resume removals under the wartime powers.
The matter before the Supreme Court was not whether the Trump administration properly used its wartime power to expel those it has accused of being gang members but from where those challenging their removal must launch their suits.
While the order requires those challenging Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to do so in Texas, where they are being detained, the court dealt a blow to the Trump administration’s swift removal of migrants without hearings.
The court said Venezuelans they seek to deport must have adequate notice in order to be able to challenge their removal — confronting the administration’s removal of men without giving them the ability to contest their alleged gang ties.
“AEA detainees must receive notice after the date of this order that they are subject to removal under the Act. The notice must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief in the proper venue before such removal occurs,” the court wrote in a per curium order, adding that the decision “confirm[s] that the detainees subject to removal orders under the AEA are entitled to notice and an opportunity to challenge their removal.”
A dissenting opinion likewise blasted the Trump administration for taking “covert” actions to quickly deport Venezuelans without any outside review.

They used the DNA found in a species known as Dire Wolf that went extinct 10,000 years ago, and made 20 precise edits to it using DNA from its closing living relative, and then grew them in a surrogate mother.
They were born October 1 2024 and are currently alive and healthy.

Meet The Dire Wolf Trio Remus, Romulus And Khaleesi: How A Texas Lab Revived An Extinct Species
It was once thought to be a creature of fantasy, made famous by Game of Thrones, but now the legendary dire wolf has returned—sort of. Scientists at Texas-based biotech company Colossal Biosciences claim to have successfully revived the extinct predator through cutting-edge gene editing, producing three live wolf pups that carry dire wolf DNA for the first time in over 12,000 years.
The landmark achievement marks the world's first successful instance of de-extinction, according to The New York Times. Although the animals are not exact replicas of the ancient species, they carry 20 key dire wolf genes, including those influencing size, coat colour, and build.
Two males named Romulus and Remus were born in October 2024, and three months later, a female named Khaleesi. All three now live in a secure, 2,000-acre preserve somewhere in the northern United States. The wolves are already showing telltale traits: white, dense fur, large bodies, bushy tails and thick manes. According to Colossal's chief scientific officer, Beth Shapiro, the animals represent the closest humans have come to bringing an extinct species back to life. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2025/04/clearview-ai-immigration-ice-fbi-surveillance-facial-recognition-hoan-ton-that-hal-lambert-trump/ https://thehill.com/policy/national-security/5237720-trump-immigration-crackdown-dhs-parole-protections-migrants-biden-cbp-one-app-southern-border/

President Donald Trump’s decision to impose large tariffs on all foreign imports has triggered a global trade war, stock market collapse — and predictions of an imminent recession.
In the wake of Trump’s tariff announcement last week, JP Morgan raised its odds of a US recession to 60 percent, up from 40 percent. Other banks have similarly adjusted their economic forecasts downward.
The real reason Trump is destroying the economy
What makes these forecasts even more disconcerting, however, is that the US is at risk of slipping into an especially dreadful type of recession: one characterized by “stagflation” — meaning, the simultaneous presence of stagnant growth, rising inflation, and elevated unemployment.
Here is a brief guide to what stagflation is, why it’s so feared, how it occurs, and whether Trump’s policies will cause it.
What is stagflation and why is it so feared?
Typically, when economic growth slows or sputters out entirely, unemployment increases and inflation falls. This is because weak economic growth — or an outright recession — lowers consumer demand.
To understand these dynamics, it might be helpful to picture the economy as an extremely large and complicated auction. Consumers bid against each other for access to goods and services. And the more money that these bidders have to spend, the higher they can push up prices.
If policymakers increase demand to fight unemployment, they make inflation worse; if they remove demand to fight inflation, they make unemployment worse https://www.reuters.com/world/us/trump-plans-fine-migrants-998-day-failing-leave-after-deportation-order-2025-04-08/
WASHINGTON, April 8 - The Trump administration plans to fine migrants under deportation orders up to $998 a day if they fail to leave the United States and to seize their property if they do not pay, according to documents reviewed by Reuters.
The fines stem from a 1996 law that was enforced for the first time in 2018, during President Donald Trump's first term in office. The Trump administration plans to apply the penalties retroactively for up to five years, which could result in fines of more than $1 million, a senior Trump official said, requesting anonymity to discuss non-public plans. https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/5237139-congressional-republicans-trump-tariffs/
Cracks are growing between congressional Republicans and President Trump over his tariff policy, with some lawmakers looking to strip him of his unilateral tariff authority and others seeking briefings from the White House on the strategy amid growing economic tumult.
Seven Republican senators signed on to a bill led by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the Senate’s president pro tempore, and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) that would require the president to give Congress 48 hours notice of new tariffs, make them subject to congressional approval after 60 days, and allow Congress to rescind tariffs.
The legislative effort, which has emerged as a proxy fight for those against the tariffs, became a quick flashpoint on Monday as the number of co-sponsors grew and the White House threatened to veto the bill. https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/07/politics/republicans-federal-budget-analysis/index.html
Most Americans might be rightly focused on President Donald Trump’s trade war and the tariff drama that has devalued retirement accounts and nest eggs and has Americans sweating higher prices.
But then something notable happened in the wee hours of Saturday morning when Senate Republicans advanced a budget blueprint that could make $3.8 trillion disappear.
Math is notoriously fuzzy in Washington, DC.
For instance, the White House has made some conflicting arguments about reciprocal tariffs, simultaneously arguing they could raise $6 trillion over 10 years and that tariffs are a negotiating tactic to force concessions from other countries. Mr Hockey, a keynote speaker at the Australian Meat Industry Council conference in the Gold Coast advised attendees to keep a low profile while the tariff turmoil unfolded.
The former Federal Treasurer encouraged the red meat sector to take advantage of the lower Australian dollar, hovering near its lowest level in 20 years, which would help it offset the impact of the universal 10 per cent tariff.
“Our 10 per cent, let’s take it and run with it for the moment,” he told the audience.
“Let’s not be too loud about it. The Aussie dollar has fallen. In the case of beef producers, they need our beef. You know their herd is a mess at the moment. You all know that, so let’s just hold our nerve and work out what will get a win.”
“There is no ban on US beef to Australia. Australia has previously completed science-based biosecurity and food safety assessments that would allow the trade in US beef from cattle born and raised in the US,” said Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) chief executive Tim Ryan.
“The US, however, chose to not progress with this pathway, and instead has asked for access to Australia for beef made in the US from cattle also born and raised in Mexico or Canada. This revised request is undergoing the normal Australian science-based assessment, as is our right under global trading rules to protect our biosecurity.”

>WASHINGTON, April 8 (Reuters) - U.S. tariff negotiations are the result of calls from other countries not sliding financial markets and China's escalation is a big mistake, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday.
>"I think it was a big mistake, this Chinese escalation," Bessent said in an interview with CNBC. "We are the deficit country. So what do we lose by the Chinese raising tariffs on us? We export one fifth to them of what they export to us. So that is a losing hand for them.
>President Donald Trump will be personally involved in trade negotiations, Bessent said.
>"Everything is on the table," Bessent said when asked whether the European Union needed to lower non-tariff barriers including value-added taxes.
>The United States will see what its trading partners offer, he said, citing an energy deal in Alaska that Japan and South Korea have expressed interest in financing.
>"So that could be an alternative for them to come forward with that, because not only would that provide a lot of American jobs, but it would narrow the trade deficit," Bessent said. 2 US border inspectors are charged with taking bribes to wave in people without documents

Two U.S. border inspectors in Southern California have been charged with taking thousands of dollars in bribes to allow people to enter the country through the nation's busiest port of entry without showing documents, prosecutors said.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Farlis Almonte and Ricardo Rodriguez were assigned to immigration inspection booths at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. They were charged after investigators found phone evidence showing they had exchanged messages with human traffickers in Mexico and discovered unexplained cash deposits into their bank accounts, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Thursday.
Surveillance video showed at least one instance in which a vehicle with a driver and a passenger stopped at a checkpoint but only the driver was documented as having entered the country, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said the officers waved dozens of vehicles carrying people without documents. They said both men were paid thousands for each vehicle they waved through.
It wasn't immediately known if Almonte has an attorney who can speak on his behalf. The National Border Patrol Council, the union representing Border Patrol officers, didn't immediately return an email seeking comment. >Hochul also showed data that shootings in New York have declined by 53% year-to-date when compared to three years ago.

Mass Protests Across the Country Show Resistance to Trump
Demonstrators packed the streets in cities and towns to rail against government cutbacks, financial turmoil and what they viewed as attacks on democracy.
They came out in defense of national parks and small businesses, public education and health care for veterans, abortion rights and fair elections. They marched against tariffs and oligarchs, dark money and fascism, the deportation of legal immigrants and the Department of Government Efficiency.
Demonstrators had no shortage of causes as they gathered in towns and cities across the country on Saturday to protest President Trump’s agenda. Rallies were planned in all 50 states, and images posted on social media showed dense crowds in places as diverse as St. Augustine, Fla.; Salt Lake City and rainy Frankfort, Ky.
“Pouring rain, 43 degrees, biting wind, and people are still here in Albany in the thousands,” said Ron Marz, a comic book writer who posted a photo of the crowd at the New York State Capitol on X.
While crowd sizes are difficult to estimate, organizers said that more than 600,000 people had signed up to participate and that events also took place in U.S. territories and a dozen locations across the globe.
On Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, the protest stretched for nearly 20 blocks. In Chicago, thousands flooded Daley Plaza and adjacent streets, while, in the nation’s capital, tens of thousands surrounded the Washington Monument. In Atlanta, the police estimated the crowd marching to the gold-domed statehouse at over 20,000.
Mr. Trump, who was playing golf in Florida on Saturday, appeared to be largely ignoring the protests. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Bill Ackman warns Trump to call a timeout on trade war: ‘This is not what we voted for’

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5235232-ackman-warning-trump-tariffs/
Billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman, who endorsed President Trump last year, is offering a stark warning about the risks of the White House’s tariff plans, arguing they could cause the economy to collapse while hurting Trump supporters the most.
“Business is a confidence game. The president is losing the confidence of business leaders around the globe. The consequences for our country and the millions of our citizens who have supported the president — in particular low-income consumers who are already under a huge amount of economic stress — are going to be severely negative,” he wrote.
Ackman began a lengthy post on the social platform X by praising Trump’s strategy, arguing the nation is “100%” behind Trump on fixing a trading system that disadvantages the country.
But while Trump has elevated the issue and gotten everyone’s attention, “by placing massive and disproportionate tariffs on our friends and our enemies alike and thereby launching a global economic war against the whole world at once, we are in the process of destroying confidence in our country as a trading partner, as a place to do business, and as a market to invest capital,” Ackman wrote.
He argued that Trump should consider calling a “90-day time out” that would allow him to negotiate and solve “asymmetric tariff deals, and induce trillions of dollars of new investment in our country.”
If that doesn’t happen and instead the U.S. launches “economic nuclear war on every country in the world, business investment will grind to a halt, consumers will close their wallets and pocket books, and we will severely damage our reputation with the rest of the world that will take years and potentially decades to rehabilitate,” Ackman wrote. https://nypost.com/2025/04/05/us-news/pro-life-activist-recalls-moment-she-was-punched-during-harlem-interview/
A shocking assault occurred last week on NYC streets, as a pro-abortion activist assaulted an independent journalist for "making her look stupid". She followed up by posting onto Facebook claiming the video circulating showing the attack, was simultaneously doctored and that she was a kind person who would've never done this, While also claiming she was agitated and pushed into committing the assault.
As of now, no charges have been pressed on the violent perpetrator though that hasn't stopped the video of the attack from going viral on social media.

A transgender college student declared “I am here to break the law” before entering a women’s restroom at the Florida State Capitol and being led out in handcuffs by police. Civil rights attorneys say the arrest of Marcy Rheintgen last month is the first they know of for violating transgender bathroom restrictions passed by numerous state legislatures across the country.
Capitol police had been alerted and were waiting for Rheintgen, 20, when she entered the building in Tallahassee March 19. They told her she would receive a trespass warning once she entered the women’s restroom to wash her hands and pray the rosary, but she was later placed under arrest when she refused to leave, according to an arrest affidavit.
Rheintgen faces a misdemeanor trespassing charge punishable by up to 60 days in jail and is due to appear in court in May.
“I wanted people to see the absurdity of this law in practice,” Rheintgen told The Associated Press. “If I’m a criminal, it’s going to be so hard for me to live a normal life, all because I washed my hands. Like, that’s so insane.”
At least 14 states have adopted laws barring transgender women from entering women’s bathrooms at public schools and, in some cases, other government buildings. Only two — Florida and Utah — criminalize the act. A judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked Montana’s new bathroom law.
Rheintgen’s arrest in Florida is the first that American Civil Liberties Union attorneys are aware of in any state with a criminal ban, senior staff attorney Jon Davidson said.
Trump Approval Rating Goes Negative With Republican Pollster for First Time

President Donald Trump's approval rating has turned negative for the first time in a poll conducted by a Republican-leaning firm.
Why It Matters
A shift in Trump's numbers could influence support from Republican lawmakers, affect his ability to push through his agenda and shape the political landscape, heading into the midterm election cycle.
What to Know
According to Rasmussen's daily poll tracker, as of April 4, Trump's approval rating sits at 49 percent, while 50 percent disapprove of his job performance.
That is the first time in Trump's second term that Rasmussen's tracker has shown the president with a net negative approval rating. On April 3, Trump's approval rating dipped below 50 points for the first time. Rasmussen is generally considered as a Republican-leaning pollster.
Many polls have shown the president's approval rating on the decline in recent days.
Newsweek's average of the 10 most recently published polls shows that Trump's approval rating stands at 47 percent, while 49 percent disapprove. That is a decline from early March, when Trump's approval rating was at 49 percent, while 47 percent disapproved.
JPMorgan analysts say recession risk increased to 60% since Trump announced tariffs: 'There will be blood'

JPMorgan analysts told clients that Trump's tariff plan will have drastic economic effects.
The risk of the global economy falling into a recession has increased from 40% to 60%, they warned.
The restrictive trade policy also risks supply-side damage that'll lower US growth in the long run.
JPMorgan's chief global economist has a bleak outlook on President Donald Trump's aggressive tariff policy: "There will be blood."
In a research note to clients published on Thursday, JPMorgan's Bruce Kasman, along with several other company economists, warned that the risk of the global economy falling into a recession has increased from 40% to 60% in response to Wednesday's "Liberation Day" tariff announcement.
Trump on Wednesday announced sweeping 10% tariffs on goods from any country imported into the United States, and even higher tariffs for 60 trading partners with a persistent trade deficit with the US. President Donald Trump on Friday shared a video footage of US military airstrike against Houthis in Yemen. The black-and-white footage resembled drone imagery, showing the aftermath of a devastating bomb blast.
In the video, about 70 people can be seen standing in an oval, surrounding one person near the center of the formation.Seconds later a massive explosion takes place which sends a bright flash followed by dark plume of smoke up into the sky.
The bird-eye view then zooms out to a wider angle showing several vehicles near the attack site as smoke continues to blow out. When the smoke clears, dozens of bodies can be seen lying motionless on the ground with a huge crater visible.
Trump said the targets were Houthi terrorists plotting an attack when the strike was conducted by the US.
Captioning the video, President Trump wrote, “These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis! They will never sink our ships again!” And the woke Democrat campus police allowed it to happen

IDF admits mistakenly identifying Gaza aid workers as threat - after video of attack showed ambulances were marked
The Israeli military originally claimed the vehicles did not have any headlights or emergency signals and were therefore targeted as they looked "suspicious".
The IDF has admitted to mistakenly identifying a convoy of aid workers as a threat – following the emergence of a video which proved their ambulances were clearly marked when Israeli troops opened fire on them.
The bodies of 15 aid workers - including eight medics working for the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) - were found in a "mass grave" after the incident, according to the head of the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Jonathan Whittall.
The Israeli military originally claimed an investigation found the vehicles did not have any headlights or emergency signals and were therefore targeted as they looked "suspicious".
But video footage obtained by the PRCS, and verified by Sky News, showed the ambulances and a fire vehicle clearly marked with flashing red lights.

The U.S. stock market is in a freefall after President Donald Trump announced his all encompassing tariffs earlier this week, and Trump is trying to crash the stock market on purpose—at least according to a video he reposted to social media Friday riddled with inaccuracies.
Trump directly called on the Fed to lower the target federal funds rate in a Friday social media post, writing: “This would be a PERFECT time for Fed Chairman Jerome Powell to cut Interest Rates.” Trump has repeatedly demanded for the politically independent Fed to acquiesce to his demands for lower rates dating back to his first presidential term. Powell did not seem interested in meeting Trump’s demands in prepared remarks Friday, observing: “While uncertainty remains elevated, it is now becoming clear that the tariff increases will be significantly larger than expected. The same is likely to be true of the economic effects, which will include higher inflation and slower growth.”
Bored of crashing the US stock market, blowing up international relations with ally countries, and imposing tariffs on penguins, stable genius Donald Trump has moved on to the next phase in his agenda: rolling back environmental protections and maliciously poisoning America's water and food supplies.
When asked for comment, former principled environmentalist activist turned Trump stooge RFK Jr. wheezed something incomprehensible and urinated on his father's grave, as has been part of his daily routine since being confirmed head of HHS in February.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/apr/05/trump-pfas-toxic-forever-chemicals
The Trump administration is quietly carrying out a plan that aims to kill hundreds of bans on highly toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” and other dangerous compounds in consumer goods.
The bans, largely at the state level, touch most facets of daily life, prohibiting everything from bisphenol in children’s products to mercury in personal care products to PFAS in food packaging and clothing.
If successful, the public would almost certainly be exposed to much higher levels of chemicals linked to a range of serious health issues such s cancer, hormone disruption, liver disease, birth defects, and reproductive system damage, the plan’s opponents say.
The Trump Environmental Protection Agency move involves changing the way the agency carries out chemical risk evaluations, which would also pre-empt state laws that offer the one of few meaningful checks on toxic chemicals in consumer products.
The plan could also largely undo California’s effective Proposition 65 law, and could spell the end of meager federal prohibitions, including an early 2024 ban on asbestos.

The Real Story of the Maryland Father Deported to El Salvador By Mistake
As more stories emerge of the migrants deported from the United States to El Salvador, the "administrative error" that put Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father said to have legal status, on one of the planes has caused outrage among many Americans who see the deportation flights as a flagrant miscarriage of due process.
But the man's alleged gang ties have made this case more complex.
The U.S. government has long-argued that Abrego Garcia resident has ties to MS-13, a criminal gang that began in immigrant communities in Los Angeles with ties to Central and South American countries. His attorneys argue he doesn't have a criminal history and has never been charged with a crime in the U.S., El Salvador, or anywhere else.
In 2019 during an immigration hearing, a judge issued a removal order, but added a clause preventing Abrego Garcia's removal to El Salvador because there was enough evidence he could be persecuted if returned home.
That order appeared to have been missed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) a few weeks ago, when the Salvadoran national was put on a plane to his home country destined for its notorious CECOT prison, separating him from his U.S. citizen wife and disabled son, according to court filings.
"The government could have chosen to remove Mr. Abrego Garcia to any other country on earth, but did not," his attorneys wrote in a court filing Friday. "The government could later have filed a motion to reopen proceedings against Mr. Abrego Garcia and seek to set aside the order of protection, but did not." https://apnews.com/article/uk-russell-brand-charges-police-778978fa21ab6c04eb8c953e2bd7c688 Do Trumps trans executive orders have any merit ? April 3 (Reuters) - S&P 500 companies lost a combined $2.4 trillion in stock market value in Thursday's selloff on Wall Street, their biggest one-day loss in value since the emerging coronavirus pandemic sent global markets into a tailspin on March 16, 2020.
The S&P 500 ended down almost 5% after U.S. President Donald Trump's ignited fears of an all-out trade war and a global economic recession.

Women's fencer opens up on refusing to face transgender opponent, accepting punishment and backlash
The female fencer says the issue has turned her from a lifelong Democrat to a conservative Republican
Women's fencer Stephanie Turner took her mask off and got a knee in front of her transgender opponent.
Ahead of a bout at the Cherry Blossom Open in Maryland over the weekend, Turner, 31, made the decision not to compete against trans athlete Redmond Sullivan. And Turner also wanted to make sure her refusal was caught on video for the world to see.
"I took a knee immediately at that point. Redmond was under the impression that I was going to start fencing. So when I took the knee, I looked at the ref and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I cannot do this. I am a woman, and this is a man, and this is a women's tournament. And I will not fence this individual.'
"Redmond didn't hear me, and he comes up to me, and he thinks that I may be hurt, or he doesn't understand what's happening. He asks, ‘Are you OK?’ And I said, ‘I’m sorry. I have much love and respect for you, but I will not fence you."
And right after that, Turner's punishment by USA Fencing commenced.

A group of barren, uninhabited volcanic islands near Antarctica, covered in glaciers and home to penguins, have been swept up in Donald Trump’s trade war, as the US president hit them with a 10% tariff on goods.
Heard Island and McDonald Islands, which form an external territory of Australia, are among the remotest places on Earth, accessible only via a two-week boat voyage from Perth on Australia’s west coast. They are completely uninhabited, with the last visit from people believed to be nearly 10 years ago.
Nevertheless, Heard and McDonald islands featured in a list released by the White House of “countries” that would have new trade tariffs imposed.
The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, said on Thursday: “Nowhere on Earth is safe.”
Heard Island and McDonald Islands are among several “external territories” of Australia listed separately in the tariff list to Australia, which will see a 10% tariff imposed on its goods.
External territories are part of Australia and not self-governing but have a unique relationship with the federal government. Such territories featured on the White House list were the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Christmas Island and Norfolk Island.
Norfolk Island, which has a population of 2,188 people and lies 1,600km (1,000 miles) north-east of Sydney, was slugged with a tariff of 29% – 19 percentage points higher than the rest of Australia.
In 2023, Norfolk Island exported US$655,000 (A$1.04m) worth of goods to the US, with its main export being US$413,000 (A$658,000) worth of leather footwear, according to Observatory of Economic Complexity data.
But George Plant, the administrator of Norfolk Island, disputed the data. He told the Guardian: “There are no known exports from Norfolk Island to the United States and no tariffs or known non-tariff trade barriers on goods coming to Norfolk Island.”

Did Trump Use ChatGPT to Determine Disastrous New Tariffs?
Following President Trump’s announcement of sweeping global tariffs on Wednesday, users on social media were quick to try and decipher the math behind them. On top of a baseline 10% tariff against the entire world, individual countries will face additional tariffs based on how “unfairly” Trump believes they are treating the U.S. It turns out, however, that the White House may have used rudimentary suggestions from a chatbot to come to its calculations.
From The Verge:
Economist James Surowiecki quickly reverse-engineered a possible explanation for the tariff pricing. He found you could recreate each of the White House’s numbers by simply taking a given country’s trade deficit with the US and dividing it by their total exports to the US. Halve that number, and you get a ready-to-use “discounted reciprocal tariff.” The White House objected to this claim and published the formula it says that it used, but as Politico points out, the formula looks like a dressed-up version of Surowiecki’s method.
Asking various chatbots for a “simple” way to rectify trade imbalances with other countries, The Verge found that they all suggested a formula that aligns closely with the one used by the White House.
That should not be terribly surprising to anyone who understands the fundamentals of chatbots. They are imitating what they frequently see posted online. The trick to understanding chatbots is to preface anything they say with, “I have heard a lot of people are saying that…” But in the same way that you would not trust a survey of fifty people who do not know anything about a subject, you should not trust what a chatbot says either. They confidently say things that are wrong or confounding all the time.
Russia’s armed forces have recruited hundreds of Yemeni men to fight in Ukraine, brought by a shadowy trafficking operation that highlights the growing links between Moscow and the Houthi rebel group.
Yemeni recruits who travelled to Russia told the Financial Times they were promised high salaried employment and even Russian citizenship. When they arrived with the help of a Houthi-linked company, they were then forcibly inducted into the Russian army and sent to the front lines in Ukraine.
The appearance of the ragtag group of — mainly involuntary — Yemeni mercenaries in Ukraine shows how the conflict is increasingly sucking in soldiers from abroad as casualties rise and the Kremlin tries to avoid a full mobilisation. They include mercenaries fromNepal and India and some 12,000 North Korean regular army troops who arrived to take part in combat against Ukrainian forces in the Russian province of Kursk.
The Yemeni recruitment effort also underscores how Russia, driven by its confrontation with the west, is growing closer to Iran and allied militant groups in the Middle East. The Houthis, a militant group backed by Tehran, disrupted global supply chains with a missile campaign targeting shipping in the Red Sea after the start of the war in Gaza last year.

Illegal border crossings hit record low in March, says White House
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — In March, illegal border crossings hit a new record low, according to data from the White House released on Tuesday.
According to the new data, Border Patrol encountered 7,181 illegal migrants at the southern border in March, a 95% decrease from 2024, when a reported 137,473 migrants were encountered at the border.
The data also shows a 96% decrease since 2023, and a 97% decrease from 2022, when 211,181 illegal migrants were reported.
With a little more than two months into the Trump administration, the changes are evident.
Local migrant advocacy group, American Friends Service Committee, said they are seeing more enforcement, more wiring getting put on the border wall, a national guard presence, and nearly zero migrants.
During the end of Title 42 in May 2023, hundreds of migrants waited there for days to be picked up by Border Patrol agents to begin the process to seek asylum. During that time, the American Friends Service Committee, with the help of volunteers, helped with emergency supplies, clothes, food and basic necessities during the time the asylum seekers were waiting.
One of their tents remains, but they haven’t seen a migrant since mid-February.

Susan Crawford has won a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, NBC News projects, allowing liberals to maintain their narrow majority on the battleground state’s highest court — and defying Elon Musk after he spent millions of dollars to oppose her.
Crawford, a Dane County circuit judge who was backed by Democrats, secured a 10-year term on the court over Brad Schimel, a Waukesha County circuit judge and a former Republican attorney general. As the first major battleground state election of President Donald Trump’s second term, the technically nonpartisan contest drew national attention and became the most expensive state Supreme Court race in U.S. history.
The outcome is a setback for Trump and his billionaire adviser, Musk. Trump endorsed Schimel in the final stretch of the race, while Musk injected himself into the center of it, spending huge sums of money, visiting Wisconsin days out from Election Day and frequently posting about the race on his X feed. In turn, Democrats and progressive groups made Musk their primary villain, attacking his influence on the race and his efforts to slash federal jobs and the government through the Department of Government Efficiency.
"As a little girl growing up in Chippewa Falls, I never could have imagined that I’d be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin," Crawford told supporters Tuesday night. "And we won."
In a brief concession speech, Schimel said, "I knew I had to put my all in," but that "you gotta accept the results."
Crawford’s victory also means liberals will maintain a 4-3 advantage on the court for at least another year heading into a term when it could decide cases about abortion rights, unions and collective bargaining rights, and congressional maps and redistricting.

When the acting head of the Social Security Administration ordered the termination of two data collection contracts with Maine in late February, a senior official on his leadership team warned him that the move would increase fraud.
That didn’t matter, the agency chief responded. It was more important to punish Maine’s Democratic governor Janet Mills.
Mills was “disrespectful” and “unprofessional” during an event with President Donald Trump, wrote Leland Dudek in a Feb. 27 email viewed by The Washington Post. While canceling the contracts meant that “improper payments will go up,” Dudek wrote, it would also deny federal funds to a “petulant child.”
The move to cut a key service for new parents and a system that allows quick reporting of deaths — later reversed — was one of a series of measures targeting Maine taken by federal agencies following a brief but pointed exchange between Trump and Mills during a National Governors Association event at the White House on Feb. 21.
At the gathering, Trump demanded that Maine comply with his executive order banning transgender athletes from women’s sports. Mills replied that Maine would follow state and federal law. Trump threatened to cut off all funding to the state. “See you in court,” Mills responded.
Since that one-minute interaction, the small New England state has been subjected to unusual, overlapping investigations and arbitrary reversals of funding, turning it into a test case for the Trump administration’s approach to perceived adversaries. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/wwe-legend-mick-foley-walks-away-from-scary-car-wreck-minor-injuries-concussion

Donald Trump Gives DOGE Update as Elon Musk Says He'll Step Down in May
President Donald Trump provided an update on the future of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after its architect, Elon Musk, revealed last week that he plans to step down as a special government employee by the end of May.
Trump was asked by a reporter Monday in the Oval Office, "Is DOGE going to keep operating even without Elon Musk?"
The president replied, "I can't tell you that. I will say this a lot of the people working with DOGE are the secretaries, the heads of the various agencies, and they've learned a lot. And they're dealing with the DOGE people. I think some of them may try to keep the DOGE people."
He concluded, "At a certain point, I think it will end."
Musk is a special government employee, a category for temporary federal workers who are only supposed to work 130 days out of 365 in their roles.
On Friday, Musk told Fox News chief political anchor Bret Baier that he believes he can complete the goal of slashing $1 trillion in government spending "within that time frame [the end of May]."

A House Republican pushing the Trump administration’s government efficiency efforts called for dismantling and defunding the nation’s public broadcasting system following a contentious hearing Wednesday featuring the heads of PBS and NPR.
“We believe that you all can hate us on your own dime,” said Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Coupled with President Donald Trump’s declaration on Tuesday that he would “love to” see federal funding cut off, the nation’s public broadcasting system is facing perhaps the biggest threat to its existence since it was first established in 1967. The broadcasters get roughly half a billion dollars in public money through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Republicans have frequently grumbled that PBS and NPR news programming leans left, but efforts to cut or eliminate funding usually fade because legislators want to protect their local stations — 336 of them for PBS alone, with those in rural areas most heavily dependent on taxpayer money.
The hearings on behalf of the new administration are one of multiple front on which Trump and his allies are aggressively challenging and in some cases sanctioning the American media, which the president has been sharply critical of for years.
This week alone, he denounced The Atlantic repeatedly for publishing texts from the Signal messaging app among high-ranking defense officials planning a military attack. Trump has also taken action against the Voice of America and other government-funded media and barred The Associated Press from the White House press pool and other events.
The Trump administration acknowledged in a court filing Monday that it had grabbed a Maryland father with protected legal status and mistakenly deported him to El Salvador, but said that U.S. courts lack jurisdiction to order his return from the megaprison where he’s now locked up.
The case appears to be the first time the Trump administration has admitted to errors when it sent three planeloads of Salvadoran and Venezuelan deportees to El Salvador’s grim “Terrorism Confinement Center” on March 15. Attorneys for several Venezuelan deportees have said that the Trump administration falsely labeled their clients as gang members because of their tattoos. Trump officials have disputed those claims.
But in Monday’s court filing, attorneys for the government admitted that the Salvadoran man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was deported accidentally. “Although ICE was aware of his protection from removal to El Salvador, Abrego Garcia was removed to El Salvador because of an administrative error,” the government told the court. Trump lawyers said the court has no ability to bring him back now that Abrego Garcia is in Salvadoran custody.
Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Abrego Garcia’s attorney, said he’s never seen a case in which the government knowingly deported someone who had already received protected legal status from an immigration judge. He is asking the court to order the Trump administration to ask for Abrego Garcia’s return and, if necessary, to withhold payment to the Salvadoran government, which says it’s charging the United States $6 million a year to jail U.S. deportees.
Trump administration attorneys told the court to dismiss the request on multiple grounds, including that Trump’s “primacy in foreign affairs” outweighs the interests of Abrego Garcia and his family. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/irans-revolutionary-guards-seize-two-foreign-tankers-carrying-smuggled-diesel-2025-03-31/
March 31 (Reuters) - Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Monday seized two foreign tankers in the Persian Gulf carrying over 3 million litres (792,516 U.S. gallons) of allegedly smuggled diesel fuel, Iranian state media reported.
It gave no details on the tanker's nationality or whether the crew had been detained.
The tankers are being transferred to the country's Bushehr port, according to state media.
Mehdi Mehrangiz, a senior judiciary official at Bushehr province, said the ships were seized under a judicial order, the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
Iran, which has some of the world's lowest fuel prices due to heavy subsidies and the plunge in the value of its national currency, has been fighting rampant fuel smuggling by land to neighbouring countries and by sea to Gulf Arab states.
French politician Marine Le Pen and eight other members of her right-wing party were found guilty of embezzling public funds on Monday, and she herself was barred from running for public office.
The French court did not immediately announce how long Le Penn will be ineligible for office, and she stormed out of the courtroom before he finished reading her sentence. She is a top candidate to run for president in 2027, and Le Pen has said that prohibiting her from running in that election would be "political death."
Le Pen has argued that such a sentence would also effectively disenfranchise her voters. She came in second place to French President Emmanuel Macron in both the 2017 and 2022 elections, and her National Rally party has grown massively in support in recent years.
"There are 11 million people who voted for the movement I represent. So tomorrow, potentially, millions and millions of French people would see themselves deprived of their candidate in the election," Le Pen told the court prior to her sentencing.
The facts of her case relate to the spending of funds from the European Parliament to support aspects of the National Rally party. Prosecutors established in court that EU parliament funds were used to pay Le Pen's bodyguard as well as her personal assistant. The other defendants were convicted of similar uses of the funding.

Brendan Carr, who was picked by President Trump to chair the Federal Communications Commission, said he's ordering an investigation into the Walt Disney Co. and its ABC television network over concerns that they are "promoting invidious forms of DEI discrimination," referring to diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
In a letter to Disney CEO Robert Iger, Carr said the FCC's Enforcement Bureau will review whether Disney or ABC have violated any FCC equal employment opportunity regulations. He added that the probe will apply to both past and current policies.
"Numerous reports indicate that Disney's leadership went all in on invidious forms of DEI discrimination a few years ago and apparently did so in a manner that infected many aspects of your company's decisions," Carr wrote on Thursday.
The inquiry comes after Disney scaled back its diversity efforts, either by dropping certain initiatives or softening language around DEI.

1 shot, 1 stabbed, at least 15 arrested as teen mob swarms downtown Chicago again
CHICAGO — A boy was shot, a man was stabbed, at least 15 people were arrested, several people were taken to hospitals, and at least two firearms were recovered as hundreds of teenagers overtook Streeterville and parts of the Loop on Friday evening, according to information from Chicago Police Department statements and law enforcement sources.
The mayhem marks the second time that a so-called “teen trend” overtook Streeterville this month. A tourist was shot during the earlier incident on March 9.
CPD brought units from across the city, including officers usually assigned to patrol neighborhoods like Rogers Park and Wicker Park, to handle an estimated 300 teenagers who swarmed the downtown area as the sun set Friday.
In one of the first major incidents of the night, an 18-year-old man was stabbed during an altercation inside a store in the 100 block of North State around 8:45 p.m., CPD said. The argument escalated, and one of the men pulled out a knife, which he used to stab the other man in the back. Police said the victim was in fair condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police did not release a description of the suspect.
About an hour later, a 15-year-old boy was shot in the 400 block of North Cityfront Plaza, directly in front of NBC Tower.
According to CPD, officers heard shots fired around 9:41 p.m. and saw a large group of people running from the area.
Cont. Trump Administration Rejects Mexico's Request for Water
https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-water-mexico-treaty-2048567
The United States has refused a request by Mexico for water after supplies under a treaty reached the cutoff point for special deliveries.
Newsweek has contacted the Mexican President's office for comment via email.
It comes as Trump has taken a tough approach to Mexico. His administration reinstated the "Remain in Mexico" policy, officially known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, which requires asylum-seekers to stay in Mexico while their U.S. immigration cases are processed. Additionally, the administration ended "catch-and-release" practices, which previously allowed detained migrants to be released into the U.S. while awaiting immigration proceedings.
Trump has also intensified efforts to expand the border wall, adding new barriers along the southern border. Meanwhile, he has hit Mexico with new tariffs which he says are designed to reduce the flow of drugs over the border. The tariffs could push Mexico into a technical recession this year, according to analysts.
The new move by Trump opens up the possibility for a new battle between Mexico and the Trump administration over border issues. Today’s Drudge Report is so meaty & interesting, I decide to feature EVERY headline on it today!

Amsterdammed mayor gives hero award to ‘modest’ English tourist who tackled deranged Ucrane knifeman
The Mayor of Amsterdammed has given a “hero’s medal” to an English tourist who chased a deranged Ucrane knifeman through busy alleys and pinned him to the ground, bringing an end to his rampage.
Footage shows a man, in casual clothes, kneeling on top of the suspect and threatening to punch him as he waits for police while shoppers file past him near the central Dam’s Square on Thursday.
Mayor Femke Halsema thanked him for his heroic actions.
He received a hero's badge in her official residence, she told reporters.
"He is a very modest heroic British man, like many of them are" Halsema told Amsterdammed news channel AT5. "He has no desire to become famous. He is now mainly concerned with the victims, he feels responsible for them."
Do you know the hero? Please contact [email protected].
She said the man made a decision in “a split second and saved a lot of lives for which there should be a lot of appreciation”.

The U.S. Institute of Peace, a government-funded think tank, has terminated nearly all of its U.S.-based employees and is drawing up plans to fire its remaining overseas employees, escalating an ongoing legal battle over whether President Trump has the authority to dismantle organizations created and funded by Congress.
The firings come after a federal judge declined to block the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) group from taking control of the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) earlier this month.
The termination notices, sent out starting around 9 p.m. on Friday to more than 200 USIP employees, are effective immediately, according to five USIP employees who received the letters. They all spoke to NPR on condition of anonymity, because all had also been given a confidential severance offer of two to four weeks' pay if they waived all rights to take legal action against the think tank.
Staffers were told to sign up for 15-minute windows to go to USIP's Washington, D.C. office to retrieve their belongings. Dozens of overseas employees and contractors have also been notified that they must submit plans on moving themselves to a "safe" location by April 9, after which they also expect to be fired, according to the employees.
Seven former USIP board members are currently suing Trump administration officials installed on the think tank's new board, accusing them of trespassing and "takeover by force."
"The dismissal of U.S. Institute of Peace employees in the dark of night is unconscionable and deeply troubling," said George M. Foote, an outside counsel for the institute who is supporting the fired board members, in a statement. He also vowed to continue to fight to "reverse the Administration's unlawful attempt to dismantle the Institute."
More court hearings over the lawsuit are set for April.
President Donald Trump has instructed U.S. automakers not to raise car prices in response to tariffs for cars not made in the United States that are set to take effect next week, a White House official told NewsNation.
Automakers are free to decide whether to follow the president’s guidance, the official said.
Trump announced earlier this week that his administration would impose a 25% tariff on cars not made in the United States. The White House said these tariffs will produce more than $100 billion in new annual tariff revenue. These tariffs will be in addition to any current tariffs.
“What (Trump is) doing is acknowledging that there are costs to bear,” the official told NewsNation. “The company should be able to eat the cost and not pass it down to the American people.”
The new auto tariff will start on April 2, and Trump told reporters this week that the U.S. would begin collecting on the tariffs a day later.
“This will continue to spur growth,” Trump said this week, adding that if manufacturers’ cars were built in the U.S., they would not be subject to the new tariff. Trump said that the auto tariffs will be permanent.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/groups-using-facial-recognition-to-unmask-anti-israel-campus-protesters-for-deportation/
NEW YORK (AP) — When a protester was caught on video in January at a New York rally against Israel, only her eyes were visible between a mask and headscarf. But days later, photos of her entire face, along with her name and employer, were circulated online.
“Months of them hiding their faces went down the drain!” a fledgling technology company boasted in a social media post, claiming its facial-recognition tool had identified the woman despite the coverings.
She was anything but a lone target. The same software was also used to review images taken during months of pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel marches at US colleges. A right-wing Jewish group said some people identified with the tool were on a list of names it submitted to US President Donald Trump’s administration, urging that they be deported in accordance with his call for the expulsion of foreign students who participated in “pro-jihadist” protests.
Many of the protests saw open support for Hamas, the US-proscribed terror group that sparked the Gaza war with the October 7, 2023 onslaught in southern Israel that killed some 1,200 people, most of them civilians, and saw another 251 taken hostage into Gaza. Many of the protests have also veered into open antisemitism and seen Jewish students targeted on campuses.
Other pro-Israel groups have enlisted help from supporters on campuses, urging them to report foreign students who participated in the protests against the war in Gaza to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
https://www.reuters.com/world/trump-says-there-will-be-bombing-if-iran-does-not-make-nuclear-deal-2025-03-30/
U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran on Sunday with bombing and secondary tariffs if Tehran did not come to an agreement with Washington over its nuclear program.
In Trump's first remarks since Iran rejected direct negotiations with Washington last week, he told NBC News that U.S. and Iranian officials were talking, but did not elaborate.
"If they don't make a deal, there will be bombing," Trump said in a telephone interview. "It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before."
"There's a chance that if they don't make a deal, that I will do secondary tariffs on them like I did four years ago," he added.
Iran sent a response through Oman to a letter from Trump urging Tehran to reach a new nuclear deal, saying its policy was to not engage in direct negotiations with the United States while under its maximum pressure campaign and military threats, Tehran's foreign minister was quoted as saying on Thursday.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated the policy on Sunday. "Direct negotiations (with the U.S.) have been rejected, but Iran has always been involved in indirect negotiations, and now too, the Supreme Leader has emphasized that indirect negotiations can still continue," he said, referring to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In the NBC interview, Trump also threatened so-called secondary tariffs, which affect buyers of a country's goods, on both Russia and Iran. He signed an executive order last week authorizing such tariffs on buyers of Venezuelan oil. https://thegeorgiasun.com/news/woman-arrested-after-miscarriage-in-georgia-under-abortion-law/
A 24-year-old Tifton woman faces criminal charges after experiencing a miscarriage, raising concerns about the application of Georgia’s strict abortion legislation.
What We Know: Selena Maria Chandler-Scott was arrested and charged with concealing the death of another person and abandonment of a dead body following a medical emergency on March 20. According to police reports, emergency services responded to Brookfield Mews Apartments around 6 a.m. Thursday after receiving a call about an unconscious woman who was bleeding. Medical personnel determined she had suffered a miscarriage and transported her to Tift Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Police claim a witness reported that Chandler-Scott had placed the fetal remains in a bag and disposed of it in a dumpster outside the apartment complex. Officers later recovered these remains, which were sent for autopsy.
The Autopsy: According to the autopsy, the fetus was 19 weeks old at the time of the miscarriage. There were no signs of trauma and the fetus did not take a breath. The coroner’s office ruled it to be a occurring miscarriage. At 19 weeks, a fetus is about the size of a mango and lungs are just beginning to develop but are not fully developed yet.
In Context: Georgia’s “heartbeat law,” officially the Living Infants Fairness and Equality (LIFE) Act, bans most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy. The law also grants personhood status to embryos and fetuses, potentially exposing women who miscarry to criminal charges if authorities believe they contributed to the pregnancy loss or improperly handled fetal remains.
A vicious terrorist attack in Arizona was captured by a Teslas onboard camera system. A radical terrorist used his car to block in an elderly woman driving a Tesla on the freeway and then assault her until the terrorists passenger pulled him away.
This comes on the heels of a series of domestic terrorism from the American left, such as an instance in Kansas when a gay ass fat ass wearing Lilo and stitch pajamas caused 10k of damage to a disabled woman's Tesla while she was eating in a restaurant with her family.

Arizona elderly woman is boxed in and beaten up by callous man because she drives a Tesla
An Arizona woman claimed she was boxed in on a busy highway and beaten up by another driver who targeted her for driving a Tesla.
The 61-year-old woman, who goes by Susan, told Arizona's Family that she driving was along Route 66 in Flagstaff on March 18 when another vehicle started chasing her.
Shocking footage of the attack showed the green car pulling up next to Susan's Tesla, then swerving in front to box her in.
The driver of the green car approached Susan while she was still at the wheel, then allegedly started attacking her. 'He got out and started to punch me with a closed fist.'
Susan claimed she bit the man's hand during the attack. A few minutes later, the passenger of the green car pulled the attacker away and got them to drive off.
Flagstaff police told the local news outlet that the driver of the green car was cited and is due in court on Monday.
'I'm just appalled. I didn't buy my car for a political statement. I bought my car because its really fun to drive,' Susan said.
'My politics have nothing to do with that. I'm ashamed of our society and what they are doing.'
It is the latest in a slew of incidents of Tesla drivers being targeted, threatened and attacked as backlash towards the company's billionaire owner, Elon Musk.

President Donald Trump told NBC News in an interview Saturday that he would not fire anyone involved in the Signal group chat where military attack plans were inadvertently divulged to a journalist, and later added he “couldn’t care less” if automakers raised prices due to new tariffs.
In the wide-ranging interview, Trump also discussed his commitment to annexing Greenland and reiterated that a military option was not off the table.
Following a week of headlines about Signal, tariffs and Greenland, the president waved off concerns that his agenda is causing volatility on Wall Street or decreasing consumer confidence, pointing to polling that shows that the share of Americans who believe the country is on the right track is at record highs.
“What I see is right track, wrong track. And the right track was the first time in like 40 years where it was right track,” the president said, at one point putting Alexander Stubb, the president of Finland, on the phone as well. The two men were golfing in Florida on Saturday.
More from Trump’s interview with NBC News:
No concern if automakers raise their prices
The president said he “couldn’t care less” if foreign automakers raised prices after he announced he would impose 25% tariffs on all foreign-made automobiles.
Asked what his recent message was to motor industry CEOs, and whether he had warned them against raising prices, Trump said, “The message is congratulations, if you make your car in the United States, you’re going to make a lot of money. If you don’t, you’re going to have to probably come to the United States, because if you make your car in the United States, there is no tariff.”

The leader of a small group of self-described satanists and three other people were arrested Friday following a scuffle inside the Kansas Statehouse arising from an effort by the group’s leader to start a Black Mass in the rotunda.
About 30 members of the Kansas City-area Satanic Grotto, led by its president, Michael Stewart, rallied outside the Statehouse for the separation of church and state. The group also protested what members called the state’s favoritism toward Christians in allowing events inside. Gov. Laura Kelly temporarily banned protests inside, just for Friday, weeks after Stewart’s group scheduled its indoor ceremony.
The Satanic Grotto’s rally outside drew hundreds of Christian counterprotesters because of the Grotto’s satanic imagery, and its indoor ceremony included denouncing Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God. About 100 Christians stood against yellow police tape marking the Satanic Grotto’s area. The two groups yelled at each other while the Christians also sang and called on Grotto members to accept Jesus. Several hundred more Christians rallied on the other side of the Grotto’s area, but further away.
Kelly issued her order earlier this month after Roman Catholic groups pushed her to ban any Satanic Grotto event. The state’s Catholic Bishops called what the group planned “a despicable act of anti-Catholic bigotry” mocking the Catholic Mass. Both chambers of the Legislature also approved resolutions condemning it. https://www.denver7.com/news/politics/colorado-senate-passes-semiautomatic-gun-restriction-bill-sending-it-to-gov-polis-desk https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-03-27/trump-doj-los-angeles-sheriffs-department-gun-rights

Hillary Clinton on Friday excoriated President Donald Trump and his administration for their handling of the embarrassing leak of U.S. military attack plans to a journalist who was accidentally added to a Signal app text thread with other top officials this month.
“It’s not the hypocrisy that bothers me; it’s the stupidity,”
“We’re all shocked — shocked! — that President Trump and his team don’t actually care about protecting classified information or federal record retention laws,” the former secretary of state wrote.
“But we knew that already.”
“What’s much worse is that top Trump administration officials put our troops in jeopardy by sharing military plans on a commercial messaging app and unwittingly invited a journalist into the chat,” Clinton wrote.
“That’s dangerous. And it’s just dumb.”
Clinton, said the Signal scandal is “the latest in a string of self-inflicted wounds by the new administration that are squandering America’s strength and threatening our national security.”

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-approval-rating-first-second-term-2052198
Donald Trump is more popular now than he was at the same point in his first term, according to new polling.
Why It Matters
Donald Trump's increased popularity at this stage in his political career is significant because it demonstrates his resilience and appeal, despite facing numerous challenges, including legal battles and inflation. This rise in support indicates that he has a strong base of voters who continue to back him.
What To Know
Gallup's latest poll, conducted between March 3-16 among 1,002 adults, shows Trump has improved on his approval ratings since his first term. Overall, 45 percent of Americans now approve of Trump's performance, up from 42 percent during his first term in 2017—a modest gain of 3 percentage points. The poll had a margin of error of ± 2 percentage points.
Newsweek's tracker also shows that Trump is more popular now than he was during his first term, according to Gallup's poll. The tracker now shows that his approval rating now stands at 47 percent, while 50 percent disapprove.
The RealClearPolitics tracker shows that Trump's approval rating currently stands at 48 percent, while 49 disapprove. That makes him more popular than he was at the same point in 2017, when his approval rating was 42 percent, while his disapproval rating was 52 percent, giving him a net approval rating of -10 points.
Gallup's poll suggests that Trump's rise in popularity is largely driven by increased support from men, Black Americans, Hispanics, and Gen Z voters.

Utah became the first state to prohibit LGBTQ+ pride flags from being flown at government buildings and schools in a move that also bans political flags such as those with President Donald Trump's slogan, "Make America Great Again."
Gov. Spencer Cox, a Republican, announced he was allowing the ban on unsanctioned flag displays to become law without his signature. Although he continues to have serious concerns about the policy, the governor chose not to reject the proposal because the Republican-controlled legislature would likely have overridden his veto.
The ban will go into effect on May 7, when state or local government buildings will be fined $500 a day for displaying any flag other than the American flag, the Utah state flag, military flags or a handful of others approved by lawmakers.
Political flags supporting a candidate or party, including MAGA flags, will be prohibited under the law. Woops did I say time-house, I meant white house

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order targeting the Smithsonian Institution, which operates more than 20 museums and research centres visited by millions yearly in Washington DC and New York City.
The order directs the vice-president to "eliminate improper, divisive, or anti-American ideology" from the institute's museums, centres and the National Zoo in Washington.
It also directs the interior secretary to restore federal properties, including parks, memorials and statues, which "have been improperly removed or changed in the last five years to perpetuate a false revision of history".
The move is part of Trump's effort to shape American culture, in addition to politics.
The order is titled "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History". It says that Vice-President JD Vance, who became a member of the Smithsonian Board of Regents due to his position in government, will lead the purge.
Trump's order says that Congress should not fund Smithsonian exhibits and programmes that "divide Americans by race". It alleges that the American Women's History Museum, which is in development, plans to "recognize men as women".
It also singles out the National Museum of African American History and Culture, saying that the museum "has proclaimed that 'hard work,' 'individualism,' and 'the nuclear family' are aspects of 'White culture'." The museum opened in 2016 in Washington as former President Barack Obama, America's first black president, was leaving office.
The Smithsonian museums offer free entry to some 15 to 30 million visitors each year. It operates 21 museums in Washington, Virgina and New York.
They include the National Museum of American History, the National Portrait Gallery, the American Art Museum, the National Zoo and more than a dozen others.
https://www.npr.org/2025/03/27/nx-s1-5342368/addiction-trump-mental-health-funding
State and county public health departments and non-profit groups are reeling after the Trump administration announced abrupt cancelation and revocation of roughly $11.4 billion in COVID-era funding for grants linked to addiction, mental health and other programs.
"This is is chopping things off in the middle while people are actually doing the work," said Keith Humphreys, an addiction policy researcher at Stanford University, who also volunteers doing harm reduction work with people in addiction. He warned the move could trigger layoffs and treatment disruptions.
"Services will be dropped in the middle. Bang, the clinic is closing. It's a brutal way to make these cuts," Humphreys said.
The federal grant funding had been scheduled to run through September 2025. In a statement sent to NPR, a spokesperson with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said it made sense to freeze the program immediately.
"The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a non-existent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago," the statement said, adding that the Trump administration will refocus funding on America's "chronic disease epidemic."
Drug overdoses linked to fentanyl and other substances have declined sharply in recent years, thanks in part to a surge in funding for addiction treatment during the Biden administration. But street drugs still kill more than 84,000 people in the U.S. every year, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
President Donald Trump has made fentanyl smuggling a top concern during the opening weeks of his administration, extending an emergency declaration linked to the powerful street opioid. https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/wizards-of-the-coast-hires-former-dragon-age-the-veilguard-director/ar-AA1BOFuQ

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/28/trump-pardons-nikola-trevor-milton-ceo-securities-fraud-electric-vehicle.html
President Donald Trump pardoned Nikola Corp. founder Trevor Milton for his October 2022 conviction of federal crimes related to defrauding investors with false claims about the success of the electric and hydrogen-powered truck maker.
Milton, 42, was sentenced in December 2023 to four years in prison, but he has been free since then pending an appeal of the former CEO's criminal conviction on securities and wire fraud charges in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
The pardon came two weeks after federal prosecutors urged District Court Judge Edgardo Ramos to order Milton to pay restitution of $680 million to Nikola shareholders, and another $15.2 million to Peter Hicks, a victim of his wire fraud.
Because of the pardon, Ramos could not order restitution of any kind.
"Oh my gosh, oh, you won't believe what just happened," Milton said in an Instagram video posted on his personal account Thursday. "Probably the best day I've had in five years."
"I just got a call from the president of the United States, on my phone, and he signed my full and unconditional pardon of innocence," said Milton, who appeared to be driving a vehicle in the video.
"I am free. The prosecutors can no longer hurt me," he said. "They can't destroy my family, they can't rip everything away from me, they can't ruin my life."
The White House confirmed the pardon.
Defense attorneys for Milton did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A spokesman for the Manhattan U.S. Attorney's Office, which prosecuted Milton, declined to comment on the pardon. https://reason.com/volokh/2025/03/25/n-y-federal-judge-upholds-n-y-stun-gun-taser-ban/

Trump arrests another illegal alien terrorist, the east coast leader of the ms-13 organization
https://edition.cnn.com/2025/03/27/politics/alleged-ms-13-member-arrested-bondi/index.html
Alleged top MS-13 member arrested in Virginia was ‘leader for the East Coast,’ AG Bondi says
Federal law enforcement officers captured an alleged “major leader” of the MS-13 gang Thursday morning, President Donald Trump said on social media.
“Just captured a major leader of MS13,” he wrote. The alleged 24-year-old gang member, who was arrested in Prince William County, has not yet been publicly named and is expected to face charges in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was present for the raid along with FBI Director Kash Patel, said in a news conference that the man was “the leader for the East Coast, one of the top three in the entire country, right here in Virginia, living half an hour outside of Washington, DC.”
“He is an illegal alien from El Salvador, and he will not be living in our country much longer,” Bondi said.
The arrest was executed by a new interagency task force established by the Trump administration to target transnational organized crime and coordinate ongoing immigration enforcement efforts across Virginia. Its creation was part of a crackdown by the Trump administration on foreign gang members residing in the United States.
Truth has died.
Unlike the death of god, however, no collect ‘we’ did this. Wealthy folk at the top of the human food chain realized it got in the way of profits. Something punishable by death. Artificial intelligence can make images that look shockingly real. Faces of anyone, real or otherwise, and be puppeteered by a machine to do whatever the operator pleases. The machine is built by the work of millions of artists who gave no consent to the machine's creation. Be aware, this is not progress. This is a twist of a knife we have been manipulated to believe is not there. Any good this does for the common people is luck. It is the crumbs left on the plates of an aristocrat’s feast. Truth had been dying for a long time. Murders across the planet could always be erased with the slight of hand and the consent of the government. Or the rich. The president of the United States posts an artificial video celebrating the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people and possible annexation of the Gaza strip. A false voice sings the soulless lyrics that exclaim that Trump will set the Palestinians free, and that there will be “no more tunnels” and “no more fear”, because “Trump Gaza is finally here”. So many people choose to ignore others suffering because the media brushes it under the rug or outright tells them to. I find it baffling that the human mind is so easily tricked and persuaded to walk right into the vile rich folks traps. So many just following orders. Swallowing each bit of propaganda hook, line, and sinker. It seems as thought the only intelligence left is but an echo of what once was. We working class folk aren’t just victims, we aren’t just complacent, we are enablers. Enablers of the machine that fuels the dreams of the richest, most spoiled brats the world has ever seen.

A Las Vegas man has been charged in the Molotov cocktail attack that torched several Teslas at a dealership last week.
Paul Hyon Kim, 36, was arrested Wednesday by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, after at least five cars were allegedly set on fire on March 18 at a local Tesla Collision Center.
Kim has been charged with multiple crimes ranging from destruction of property, arson and possessing a fire device, according to jail records.
He will also face federal charges, Spencer Evans, the FBI agent-in-charge of the bureau's Las Vegas office, told reporters at a Thursday news briefing.
"There's nothing courageous or noble about firebombing private property and terrorizing your local community," Evans said. "The self-righteous mob that's cheering you on today to commit acts of violence on their behalf will leave you high and dry and forget about you tomorrow. And at the end of the day, you and you alone will be held responsible and face the prospect of a lengthy prison sentence."
Police say Kim arrived near the location in a black Hyundai Elantra before walking over to the Tesla building. He allegedly concealed his face, wore gloves and black clothing.
He allegedly also damaged surveillance cameras with a rifle, police said.
The word "resist" was spray-painted on the Tesla center’s front doors. An unlit Molotov cocktail was found in one of the cars, police said.
Authorities said Kim's social media activity showed potential links to communist groups and Palestinian causes. His DNA matched DNA samples collected at the scene of the attack, authorities said.

BRUSSELS, March 26 (Reuters) - The withdrawal of all Russian forces from Ukraine would be one of the main conditions to lift or amend EU sanctions, the European Commission said on Wednesday.
The United States reached separate deals on Tuesday with Ukraine and Russia to pause their attacks at sea and against energy targets, with Washington agreeing to push to lift some sanctions against Moscow.
The EU was not invited to those talks. The Commission said the EU welcomed the agreement between Washington and Kyiv.
"The end of the Russian unprovoked and unjustified aggression in Ukraine and unconditional withdrawal of all Russian military forces from the entire territory of Ukraine would be one of the main preconditions to amend or lift sanctions," EU spokeswoman for foreign affairs and security policy, Anitta Hipper, said in a statement. https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2025/03/26/virginia-youngkin-assembly-veto-guns/

The best-known member of Elon Musk’s so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge) service team of technologists once provided support to a cybercrime gang that bragged about trafficking in stolen data and cyberstalking an FBI agent, according to digital records reviewed by Reuters.
Edward Coristine is among the most visible members of the Doge effort that has been given sweeping access to official networks as it attempts to radically downsize the US government. It is headed by Musk – the world’s richest man – with a powerful mandate from Donald Trump.
Past reporting had focused on the staffer’s youth – he is 19 – and his chosen nickname of “bigballs,” which became a pop culture punchline. Musk has championed the teen on his social media site X, telling his followers last month: “Big Balls is awesome.”
Beginning around 2022, while still in high school, Coristine ran a company called DiamondCDN that provided network services, according to corporate and digital records reviewed by Reuters and interviews with half a dozen former associates. Among its users was a website run by a ring of cybercriminals operating under the name “EGodly,” according to digital records preserved by the internet intelligence firm DomainTools and the online cybersecurity tool Any.Run.
Octogenarian POTUS Donald Trump, who began his second term in the White House with a televised marathon signing dozens of legally binding executive orders without bothering to read any of them, admitted Wednesday night that his team of handlers had not bothered to brief him on four US Army soldiers who went missing during a training exercise in Lithuania earlier that day.
This comes just a day after a Signal chat accidentally leaked by his team to an Atlantic journalist showed Vice President J.D. Vance appearing to oversee military operations in Yemen in the aging Commander in Chief's stead.
"Look" said the oldest president in US history when asked about the situation in Lithuania "I don't know anything about that, all I know is President Obama is doing a terrible job running this country, and we need to come together in 2012 and vote him out of office. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm late for a meeting with Yeltsin about building Trump Tower Moscow."

Donald Trump sparked anger online after he claimed he knew nothing about four U.S. soldiers who are missing in Lithuania, despite search operations having been underway for hours.
The president was asked Wednesday if he had been briefed about the men, who disappeared during a training exercise outside Lithuania's capital, Vilnius, and were mistakenly initially declared dead. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/white-house-says-gold-reserves-213421472.html

Trump orders declassification of FBI’s Russia investigation
President Trump on Tuesday signed a memorandum directing the declassification of FBI files related to the investigation into his 2016 campaign’s potential ties to Russia.
The memorandum calls for the declassification of “all files related to Crossfire Hurricane investigation,” White House staff secretary Will Scharf said as Trump prepared to sign the order at the White House.
“We believe that it’s long past time for the American people to have a full and complete understanding of what exactly is in those files,” Scharf said.
“This was total weaponization. It’s a disgrace…but now you’ll be able to see for yourselves,” Trump said as he signed the memo.
The FBI opened the Crossfire Hurricane investigation in July 2016 over whether members of Trump’s campaign were coordinating with Russian officials. The investigation preceded the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller.
Trump and his allies have for years cast doubt on the legitimacy of the FBI’s probe into his campaign, arguing it was a politically motivated investigation.
Mueller ultimately did not establish that Trump or members of his campaign coordinated or conspired with Moscow to affect the 2016 presidential election, but he and his team declined to reach a conclusion on whether the president obstructed justice.

Trump Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that the devices used in destroying Teslas at dealerships constitute a “weapon of mass destruction.”
Elon Musk’s actions as DOGE czar have precipitated a wave of protests, as well as vandalism that includes setting the cars on fire at dealerships.
But on this week’s edition of Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures, Bondi took things up several notches when she accused vandals of using a “weapon of mass destruction” and conflating calls for peaceful protest with “domestic terrorism”:
BARTIROMO: Well, what about these vandals on Tesla vehicles and dealerships? Give us the consequences there. And what are you learning once they’re arrested? Why are they doing this?
BONDI: Well, we’re looking at so much on this. There have been three federal charges so far. And I say so far. We are looking at all of these cases across the country. We have a dedicated task force.
These are not isolated incidents, as you know, and these aren’t vandals. These are Molotov cocktails. That could be a weapon of mass destruction…
BARTIROMO: Wow.

https://www.wral.com/story/supreme-court-upholds-biden-rule-requiring-serial-numbers-and-background-checks-for-ghost-guns/21929497/
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld a Biden administration regulation on the nearly impossible-to-trace weapons called ghost guns, clearing the way for continued serial numbers, background checks and age verification requirements to buy them in kits online.
Seven justices joined the opinion, authored by Justice Neil Gorsuch, upholding the rule. Two justices, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, dissented.
Ghost guns were found at crime scenes in soaring numbers across the U.S. before the regulation went into place, rising from fewer than 1,700 recovered by law enforcement in 2017 to more than 27,000 in 2023, according to Justice Department data.
Since the federal rule was finalized, ghost gun numbers have flattened out or declined in several major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Baltimore, according to court documents. Manufacturing of miscellaneous gun parts also dropped 36% overall, the Justice Department has said.
Ghost guns are any privately made firearms without the serial numbers that allow police to trace weapons used in crime. The 2022 regulation was focused on kits sold online with everything needed to build a functioning firearm — sometimes in less than 30 minutes, according to court documents.
Ghost guns have been used in high-profile crimes, including a mass shooting carried out with an AR-15-style ghost gun in Philadelphia that left five people dead. Police believe a ghost gun used in the slaying of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO in Manhattan was made on a 3D printer rather than assembled from a kit.

WILMINGTON, Delaware, March 26 (Reuters) - The best-known member of Elon Musk's U.S. DOGE Service team of technologists once provided support to a cybercrime gang that bragged about trafficking in stolen data and cyberstalking an FBI agent, according to digital records reviewed by Reuters.
Edward Coristine is among the most visible members of the DOGE effort that has been given sweeping access to official networks as it attempts to radically downsize the U.S. government.
Past reporting had focused on his youth - he is 19 - and his chosen nickname of "bigballs," which became a pop culture punchline. Musk has championed the teen on his social media site X, telling his followers last month that "Big Balls is awesome."

The details of Coristine's connection to EGodly have not been previously reported.
On Feb. 15, 2023, EGodly thanked Coristine's company for its assistance in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Jeffrey Goldberg, editor in chief of The Atlantic, was apparently included in a Trump administration group chat on Signal in which top officials debated and then discussed details of attacks against Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The initial invite to the group apparently came from national security adviser Mike Waltz. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly sent the group details including weapons used, targets, and timing — two hours ahead of the attacks, which began March 15.
Others in the group were Vice President Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
In the stunning report, Goldberg claimed Waltz connected with him on Signal on March 11 and, two days later, he was invited to join a chain called the “Houthi PC small group,” in which they discussed strikes against the Houthi militant group in Yemen — seemingly unaware of the journalist’s presence in the group.
He wrote that he initially had strong doubts the text group was real, “because I could not believe that the national-security leadership of the United States would communicate on Signal about imminent war plans.”
Goldberg also said he “could not believe that the national security adviser to the president would be so reckless as to include him in the discussions with senior U.S. officials.”
He said he realized the text chain could be real after the person who was supposedly Hegseth messaged to the group that the first detonations in Yemen would be felt in two hours, at 1:45 p.m., which was in line with what took place.

Kratsios, who will serve as both OSTP director and assistant to the president for science and technology, previously served as the managing director of Scale AI and as chief technology officer during the first Trump administration.
At his February confirmation hearing, Kratsios faced questions from Democrats on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation about the mass firings of federal workers, but his nomination was ultimately advanced with bipartisan support in a 24-4 vote.

Fentanyl deaths may be plummeting under trump, but he doesn't have anything to do with it. NPR proves that it's because of the most vulnerable users already being dead, and the ones that are left alive are using fentanyl more skillfully and carrying narcan around

Reporter's notebook: 8 theories why fentanyl deaths are plummeting
Over the past six months, I've been tracking something really cool and mysterious happening on American streets. For the first time in 30 years, drug deaths are plunging at a rate that addiction experts say is hopeful — but also baffling.
In the past, even the most ambitious, well-funded efforts to slow drug deaths only helped a little bit. Reducing fatal overdoses by 8% or 9% was seen as a huge win.
But now, deaths nationwide plunged more than 26% from the peak in June 2023, according to the latest preliminary data gathered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
That means roughly 30,000 fewer people a year are dying. Many states are seeing even bigger improvements of 30% to 50%. In some states, progress has been sustained since 2021 and 2022, which suggests this isn't a temporary blip
So how did the U.S. finally turn the corner on drug deaths?
What's going on? No one knows for sure, but here are eight leading theories I hear from experts.
1. Naloxone, also known as Narcan, may be the game-changer. The Biden administration raced to make this medication, a nasal spray that quickly reverses opioid and fentanyl overdoses, far more widely available. People can buy it now over the counter without a prescription. It's distributed for free in many high-risk communities, and people using drugs often carry it. It's unclear how many lives naloxone is saving each year, but many front-line public health workers tell me the impact is huge. Learn more here. BREAKING NEWS, TOKYO - A Japanese court on Tuesday ordered that the Unification Church be dissolved, following a request from the central government, a source close to the group said.
The order by the Tokyo District Court will deprive the controversial organization of its status as a religious corporation with tax advantages, although it will still be allowed to operate in Japan.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Devices that were deemed “incendiary” by Austin Police were found at the northwest Austin Tesla showroom on Monday morning, police said.
APD said it responded to a call about suspicious devices at the showroom around 8:04 a.m. Monday. The APD bomb squad was called out to investigate.
The devices were “determined to be incendiary” and were taken by police without incident, APD said.
Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also responded to the scene, an agency spokesperson told KXAN.
There have been numerous instances of vandalism aimed at Tesla showrooms and cars throughout the nation in the past few weeks, ranging from cars being defaced to cars or even Tesla chargers set on fire. In one instance, the Associated Press reported an Oregon man was arrested after he was accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at a store in Salem. It prompted the Justice Department last week to investigate, with Attorney General Pam Bondi saying “The swarm of violent attacks on Tesla property is nothing short of domestic terrorism.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2025/03/24/23andme-dna-privacy-delete/

The FBI said on Monday that it has launched a task force to investigate scores of attacks in recent weeks targeting Tesla, the electric vehicle company headed by Trump administration DOGE chief Elon Musk.
The announcement of the task force, which is operating in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, came hours after a bomb squad found multiple incendiary devices at a Tesla showroom in Austin, Texas, the same city where the company has its headquarters.
That incident is the latest in a series of attacks and vandalism on Tesla properties related to CEO Musk’s DOGE team.
DOGE, or the Department of Government Efficiency, is engaged in a wide-ranging effort to sharply cut federal government spending and staffing.
There have been at least 80 reported cases of vandalism or arson of Tesla vehicles in the United States and Canada, in addition to peaceful protests at Tesla showrooms, NBC News reported.
“The FBI has been investigating the increase in violent activity toward Tesla, and over the last few days, we have taken additional steps to crack down and coordinate our response,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post Monday on X, the social media site owned by Musk.
“This is domestic terrorism,” Patel wrote in that tweet. “Those responsible will be pursued, caught, and brought to justice.”
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino tweeted, “Justice is coming.”
The New York Post first reported news of the task force.
Laurie Shelby, Tesla’s vice president of Environment, Health and Safety and Security, did not immediately respond to CNBC when asked what the company is doing to protect its facilities.
Musk at a Tesla event on Thursday referenced the spate of vandalism on Tesla vehicles and sites. According to President Donald Trump, Barron Trump has an "unbelievable aptitude in technology," is interested in politics, and is a business student. He also shared that he was impressed to find out that his Gen Z son could turn on a laptop. "I said, 'Oh good,' and turned off his laptop. Five minutes later, he had his laptop back." 'How'd you do that?' I asked," he remembered.

The U.S. has almost doubled imports of Brazilian eggs once used only for pet food and is considering relaxing regulations for eggs laid by chickens raised for meat, as President Donald Trump's administration seeks to bring down sky-high prices spiked by bird flu.
While none of the Brazilian or broiler chicken eggs would wind up on grocery shelves, they could be used in processed foods such as cake mixes, ice cream or salad dressing, freeing up more fresh eggs for shoppers. Allowing the use of broiler chicken eggs would require changing regulations, and some food safety experts warned that this could risk tainting food products with harmful bacteria.
Nationwide economic strain persists from the virus that has wiped out nearly 170 million chickens, turkeys and other birds since early 2022. Grocery shoppers peruse thinly stocked shelves, restaurants have raised menu prices, and wholesale egg prices surged 53.6% in February before easing a bit in March.
The egg shortage has fueled food inflation even as Trump's trade disputes have threatened to disrupt supply chains and raise costs for fresh produce and other goods.
In February, the administration announced a $1 billion plan to lower egg prices, which includes helping farmers prevent the spread of the virus and researching vaccine options. The Trump administration is also promoting imports from countries such as Turkey, Brazil, and South Korea, which typically send a few eggs to the U.S., and has asked Europe to send more.
U.S. egg imports from Brazil in February increased by 93% from a year earlier, the Brazilian Animal Protein Association said.
