I remember reading that private insurance companies get federal tax payer dollars to help cover the costs to insure homes in flood and hurricane prone areas, as otherwise no insurance company would provide coverage.

The result is rich homeowners with bazillion dollar mansions right on the Atlantic coast, having their insurance subsidized by average American's tax dollars and when theres a hurricane and their 100K square foot summer home is demolished, they rebuild an even larger and more expensive home, which is again demolished in a few years and they then again rebuild with even larger and more expensive mansion, repeat ad infinitum...
