Influence or trust? Both are very real and matter very much to any country that isn't a hermit kingdom like the DPRK. Isolationism is a dumb ideology that doesn't work. We have to maintain positive relationships with countries we intend to do business and cooperate militarily with. Would you trust a country that can turn it's entire ideology on a dime every 4 years? No, that would be retarded and bad business. A successful and modern isolationist USA only exists in magatard fantasies. Russia wants a weak West so it can act unopposed, and convincing Western countries to do stupid things like what trump is doing serves that goal.
