The answer is that they have to deal with life and death, and it's a huge amount of pressure and responsibility. it's easy for you to sit there when you're just a mechanic, or an office worker in a cubicle, or a line cook in a restaurant, or a fedex driver, or whatever it is that you do, the reality is you're not expected to be perfect 100% of the time. If you fuck up a car as a mechanic? you fix your mistake at your own expense and move on. You fuck up a call with a client in the office? you'll get some flak, but everyone will forget in a few months. You fuck up a dish in a restaurant? you're not getting fired. Fedex driver delivers to the wrong address? you'll get chewed out and that will be that.

If a doctor fucks up someone dies. And they get sued. Hell, even when they live after your fuck up you get sued. Little known fact about being a doctor, you have to get your own liability insurance, cause if the hospital can shrug off the charges and pin them on you? You bet your fucking ass they will. And even outside of the monetary aspect, losing patients is completely demoralizing and destructive to a doctor. It the ultimate failure, you lost the war, and it's right there in the gurney or the bed for everyone to see. This is the kind of shit that leads you to alcoholism, drug abuse, and yes. Death.

The solution is therapy, if it wasn't a scarlet letter. If you do it you better do it in the down low like a drug deal, because the moment the hospital administration finds out your fired. No, not parting ways, not peacefully let go, or any other way that makes it seem like you and your job have been in a romantic relationship for 5 years. Fired and blacklisted. so you cannot even go to other hospitals to try ans get your job back, they see it as a liability, an admission that you're more than likely about to fuck up, and cost someone their life, and the administration having to pay a huge lawsuit.
