CF has a significant issue where it's not very recyclable. It significantly degrades in quality if it can be reused. It's also very energy intensive to create. That is the tradeoff with extremely high performance materials in general. Its ideally a open-cycle item. It's landfill afterwards. That can add up with the scale of the automotive sector. Even solutions like shredding into other materials or pyrolysis does not close off its use cycle, it just sequesters it away or requires even more energy to turn it back into elemental carbon.

Compare that to steel and aluminum which can be remelted and reforged back to spec, and can continually rotate into use and reuse. Aluminum in particular is great for recycling and is valuable enough to keep rotating in a country's national stock.
