Oftentimes they can't get approved for a used car loan or the financing for the used car is extremely bad, especially not now when used car APRs approaching credit card rates. People are going to pay double for their car thinking it was a good deal if they only pay their installments on time.

People are currently faced with a bad deal or an outright ripoff. The new car is be best of a bad situation.

People who couldn't afford markup pricing moved to the used car market, and prices have been insane since. They're wound out on high APR loans and not that much better off than if they had bought a new car at this rate.
