Not sure going from 0W to 5W or even 20W would give meaninful drops in efficiency, but modern engines are also much higher compression than older engines.

That wouldn't be terrible. What if AI could detect you're coasting to slow a bit before a turn? What if it sees you're slowing to a stop light or traffic ahead and it turns off a few seconds earlier? Would that offset the electricity needed to make those calculations? Probably not unless we see $5/gallon gas again.
