and yeah, that was my point. My 18 foot Crestliner tinny is 900 lbs hull weight, my 40hp outboard is 260 lbs, my electronics and trolling motor and batteries is another 400 lbs, so my "average package weight" would be 1560, but I've also got between 25 and 150 lbs of fuel, 50 lbs of anchors and chains, 30 lbs of rope, 100 lbs of rotomolded cooler full of ice and drinks, a bunch of rods and tackle boxes, downriggers and weights, etc etc sitting in the boat when it's being trailered.

Shit adds up.

I will say that the J2807 standard that the car manufacturers use now for towing is a perfect dumbshit standard. Unless your tongue weight is negative or so high you are sitting on the bumpstops of your rear suspension, J2807 is stringent enough that you probably won't get into any trouble that tow-haul mode and stability control can't get you out of, unless you're doing the kind of shit likely to get you in an accident unladen. If you actually understand how to load a trailer and drive a multiunit vehicle, and you're not trying to drive 85 mph through the mountains, you can exceed it pretty handily and still operate perfectly safe. I've had 60,000 lbs behind a 1 ton Chevy on several occasions (both a 2003 with 8.2 and a 2019 Duramax), and the trucks will just eat if you're reasonable about speeds and stopping distances and corners. And there was a period where it was a monthly thing for a couple of summers for me to have a 2006 5cylinder Colorado doubled up on bed payload AND tripled up on trailer payload, hauling hay. I wouldn't have done it with an automatic equipped truck, and route planning was important, but trucks for the last 20 years have more engine AND more brakes than medium duty trucks had when I was learning to drive. Completely legal loads in the Detroit powered dumptruck I drove for my first job feel way sketchier.
