So I recently made the mistake of trying to help my parents getting their new car to replace their 20 year old one. My mother had reasonable demands. Preferably under 8 years old and under 10 max and automatic. Father on the other hand has much harder standards. Needs to be a BMW or a Merc, has to be 3/C class or bigger, cannot be a diesel or a PHEV (which makes it difficult since most post 2020s are PHEV's), cannot be a station wagon, cannot be too under powered and has to fit a certain budget.

And after I apply these standards there are like 5 cars for sale in the country that also fit his budget. Either they are station wagons or they are located simply too far away. Eventually though I find two C classes that fit these standards. Great let's take a look at them. Aaaannnddd then father realizes that the budget he stated was with the assumption that we still lived in a world with 0-1% interest rates. We no longer live in that world. And just like that the budget gets cut by 20%. And with this budget cut no car is in budget that doesn't have one compromise. So I try to get him to compromise.

Get something other than a BMW or Merc
>No son, I need a brand that makes my proud.
Get a station wagon since they are couple grand cheaper
>No son, I will never consider a station wagon
Switch the engine to the smaller underpowered version
>I can't have the car be too slow

So I try to find a car that fit these criteria even with the reduced budget. And eventually I find one. A 2018 BMW 320 Gran Turismo. It's new enough, it's powerful enough, it's not a station wagon and it's even AWD which is something that father has wanted his car to be for last 20 years. Mother loved it. But father.
