I've been hiking plenty of times. Unless you are a complete retard hippie doing their "OMG LETS GO EXPLORING IN THE WILD" phase you 100% will know if your route crosses a river or deep stream well ahead of time.

Yeah, because I can look at fucking maps both online and in books and see exactly what the route is going to look like and plan for it. A goretex boot isn't going to be soaked unless you fully submerge it above the liner, they do perfectly fine in shallow streams.
