It pays the median household income for my MSA. If I had been making that in 2019, I would think of myself as set. But it's 2024. Housing has gone through a period of hyperinflation that doesn't seem set to deflate any time soon (it's not interest rates, it's price). The increased cost of fuel, specifically diesel used in commercial transportation, has a knock-on effect at every layer of middleman and transit, raising prices across the board. the jobs aren't becoming more remunerative, they're just not getting worse while everything else gets way more expensive. everything from new cars to housing to fucking kids toys has been turned into a speculative asset. people go trawling home depot checkout lines for "rare" hot wheels to hock on ebay to other gen x freaks
