You can boil this back to rock, spear, sling, atlatl, and bow. Since man has been throwing things at objects he has always desired the correct trajectory for an object with sufficient weight to do damage. Now we have things such as .300 win mag or subsonic wonders like .300 blackout so the tuning becomes getting your dope on a rifle. Most men are to lazy to do it properly but it is easy in the days of modern optics and other useful tools. With the consistency of a budget, off shelf bolt action rifles a man can easily create a precision rifle with all the bells and whistles for less than a shit used car in the 1990s. You can now make an animal, two or four legged, drop within a matter of yards depending on the round you use. It could be the rifle you use to shoot varmints in the yard. Perhaps the rifle you grab when the power goes out and you know a mostly peaceful protest is coming.

All of that came from a distant ancestor who knapped flint out of the right rock with the right tools and stuck that rock on a stick. Not just any stick. One he straightened for days after finding the right tree with the right shaped branches. He also found the feather of the right bird and the sinew of a deer to stick it all together. He then sealed it with pine pitch where needed. We'll call him grug. If grug could do all of that he would be fascinated with your rifle and the most reverent shooter.
