It is not just 'the top' positions either.
Essentially, the entire post-K12 college academic system everywhere is like an inverted pyramid that is the opposite of merit. This is particularly true of the liberal arts but also, the hard sciences/STEM and even engineering have become bloated, far out of proportion to the needs of society, civilization overall or most industries. Far to many people with degrees, 'paper' for one thing or other and no one with actual expertise on how to actually _do_ things.
Many of these things about the rot, bloat and ivory tower decay of the overall intelligentsia and educated establishment of the west were pointed out by Ted K in his writings.

A major component aspect that has driven this overall decline.
Also the overall 'broadening' and what I would term, 'vague-ening' of academic inquiry. From the highly specific and focused (topics) of value and utility, to the more wild, arcane, and essentially pointless/useless.

the post-1970s Financialization of the global economy, which has *vastly* accelerated the magnitude of Industrial Society's pace of growth and development for the past three decades, is an aspect that is sadly missing from Ted K's writings along with proper attribution of the role of central banks and debt note fiat currency profligation to the overall Industrial Society expansion, planetwide that he was so focused on. He didn't realize or take into account, just how much the Debt-Based Economic Model autofac of the 1990s and later giga-accelerated (far beyond and in greater magnitude to the pre-1980 era) all the phenomena he warned about.
