1. System Architecture Differences. GPS: Satellites transmit, receivers (phones, etc.) only receive. BeiDou is a two-way communication system where users can send short messages back through the satellite network. GPS CANNOT DO THIS! This is uniquely Chinese innovation.
2. GPS only uses MEO satellites. BeiDou uses hybrid swarms: Meo, IGSO, GEO. It's technically much more different. Also very precise.
3. Most importantly, BeiDou is a Chinese development for the fact that it was blocked from access to GPS.

However, if you wanna call shenanigans China has published BeiDou's signal-in-space specifications. CHECK FOR YOURSELF. Who am I kidding, though? You likely can't add two fractions together.
