People don't want to think for themselves. They want to cruise through life on autopilot, just doing piss easy tasks that require no mental input so they can spend all their mental capacity on gossip or thinking about who they want to fuck and so on.
Modern society tries to turn everyone into an intellectual, but the truth is that the majority of people are not only unsuited for it, but don't even want it.
I am certain a majority would even be happier if they never learned how to read and write, it's just another burden on their mind which they were not made to shoulder.
