Those are the oldest remains found *in Europe.* it even says they're only 45,000 years old. We have homo Sapiens remains from hundreds of thousands of years ago in Africa.

I'm not going to say that's not a reason. But species has always been kinda subjective and mote based on ease of/tendency for reproduction.
Like, everyone here probably knows about the Rhesus factor and the issues it causes for breeding. You might be able to make an argument there. But these issues are very minor compared to a lot of other "fertile hybridizations" we see.
Now, if we compounded other factors with similar rates of fertility issues, we'd have more problems.
First would come ring species where a population in Europe will have less issues breeding with other Europeans than Africans but all "in betweens" work relatively fine. Then we get a proper fission when one population consistently has issues breeding with all others. That would be a new species.

It's not about genetic distance.
