Technically hell is not exactly in the bible. In the bible there is Gehenna and Sheol, where Gehenna is the most commonly used in the new testament and refers to a physical place outside Jerusalem where they burn trash. Most of the modern conception of hell comes from Luke 16:19-31 where they refer to hades as a place of torment, not in any great detail but just that the person is in torment. This likely comes from a Jewish folk tradition that the wicked and righteous were separated in Sheol. Overall, a lot of the modern conception of hell as eternal or whatever is fanfiction.

It is intuitive because most complex things in our lives are designed, but it doesn't really make a lot of sense. How did God intelligently design humans? He created an infinitely more complex universe so that billions of years later on a single given rock in a single otherwise empty galaxy we'd come about? He interfered, but only like one time with some Jewish tribe and never in any consistent or reliable manner? Or if it's not Abrahamic God, why doesn't he seem to be interested at all? And if he's not interested at all, why does it really make a difference if he exists?

No idea lives on forever. The idea of Godhood only makes sense as an idea. It makes as much sense as a drawing, and even conceptualizing it in the real world immediately runs into contradictions. Our intuition is for us to want to have a significance greater than is reality, and the rest is just wishful thinking.
