Lame as fuck. Surpassing last place to be in last place but slightly less bad than the last time in last place? It's still last place. So relative standing is the same. If "just be yourself" actually meant anything; nobody would suggest it to retards, autists, and losers. It's an aphorism said only for the benefit of the person saying it to justify their just world cope. With the added bonus of potentially sabotaging the competition just in case the person is indeed as retarded as they assume they are. You'll never hear such a person say "surpass me in [thing]". That's because whether they admit this to themselves or not, they implicitly understand a human's value can only be relative.
