Your brain is several levels below being equipped to think about this. You're thinking in terms of "advantage" like every single chemical interaction that happened since the dawn of the known universe is anthropomorphized based on wants and needs.

Ironically given the amount of poetic and mythological sentiments this parallels, "life" is, for all practical purposes, the same sort of thing as "fire", in terms of the fundamental processes that govern it. What is the "advantage" to fire that it self-replicates? That doesn't matter, it just does, because that's the way the math works.
