: Bionic Vision (Open Research Project)
Over 1.3 billion people globally suffer from visual impairment, often caused by retinal degeneration, optic nerve atrophy, or trauma. Existing solutions like retinal implants are limited to partial vision restoration and depend on surviving biological cells. Our goal: Develop a fully synthetic vision system that bypasses damaged eyes entirely, translating digital camera input into electrical signals compatible with the optic nerve or visual cortex.

Proposed Solution:
High-resolution digital camera: Captures visual data (light, color, motion).

Neural encoder: Translates pixel data into biologically compatible electrical patterns.

Graphene electrode array: Implanted on the optic nerve or cortex for precise stimulation.

Machine learning models trained on neural datasets to mimic retinal ganglion cell encoding.

Real-time signal optimization using feedback from EEG/fMRI.

Technical Basis:

Neuroplasticity: The brain can adapt to artificial inputs (e.g., cochlear implants).
