Fpbp. Magic is quite literally the internal chemistry in the brain leading up to “wow it’s like magic!”, and the external phenomenon that reinforces such. It’s not at all the same for everyone. You can absolutely mismatch or imbalance the two, like how no one in the modern world sees the magic—even when it’s a literal Atlantean tier era. Zoomers can’t tell you how their shit works; it’s still mysterious to them. Biologists experience a vital sense of wonder and mystery when they discover new forms of deep sea life. This is magic. Even if they don’t use the word or the same semantics. It’s all a feeling, or sensation. Not even. An opinion. “That ain’t natural” has always been an opinion, and the capital-w Wizard may or may not see themselves as a capital-w Wizard. It is a lot like how the elves in Tolkien don’t see themselves as magical beings, and how Gandalf is a “wizard”. It’s a role to play, or a hat to put on, by you or another, and it’s apparent that Ignorance (that of wonder, enchantment, “how did you do that?”) can be a tool to use/abuse. Magic is one sided, and that is the beauty of it. It IS a veil. It IS a stage. It IS “magic”. Proxy logic. A placeholder. A black box that is white within. Magic isn’t meant to exist, to exist. It exists the same cold, darkness, or holes, exist. It is closer to an absence, or a lack of familiarity (the supernatural is an oxymoron based around unfamiliarity - nature is nature no matter the nature), or specifically some psychologically substantiated angle. It is a projection of the mind’s eye (there’s a good reason the eye within the pyramid is so apt as an occult symbol). The birth of religion. Men looking to the stars in the night sky and seeing gods.
