The metaphysical end of QM, relativity, and atomic chemistry already got figured out by the Greeks, the Hindus, and the Buddhists about 2,500 years ago. It wasn't until the 20th century that we had the technology to prove whether any of those metaphysical theories were real or just makey-uppey nonsense, though it turned out they were (mostly) correct.

The Buddhist doctrine of dependent origination, the Hindu doctrine of Atman and Brahman, Democritian atomism, and Heraclitus' argument against the nonexistence of effect-less causes and uncaused effects are among the philosophical foundations of modern physics, but, like with many other things, G-d's chosen people pretend they discovered it first.
