To a certain extent, of course. How far you'll go? That depends on how many and which games you watch (can't give you a recommendation here, it is what it is. Some games offer more than others) ... and it depends on how "bright" you are, let's be real. It's definitely possible to get a good grasp of the sport by watching TV. It's often better than being in the stadium since you have more perspectives and close-ups. Seeing the full pitch isn't that important, you should see enough. A bit of reading and listening to "experts" (you don't have to agree with them) will also help, of course. But to get a solid grasp, watching for a while and paying attention is obviously enough, usually
