Except it was always a big part of science fiction. You even saw elements of it in the genres that developed into science fiction, like the French Last Man subgenre, which began in 1800 with the story of a prophetic dream of the distant future. You can see science fiction and proto-science fiction stories with precognitive powers, telepathy, and the like well before the 1950s.

Prophetic Visions/Dreams go hand in hand with Science Fiction for obvious reasons, as a story of the potential future and a prophecy are not too far apart. With that door open, telepathy, teleportation, telekinesis, mind-reading, hypnosis, and other powers attributed to mystics can be attributed to science instead.
