Palladium Games and Rifts General: Pretty Demon Edition.
The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. Demon & alien invaders have poured out of the rifts to destroy human civilization and claim the Earth. Do you still assault PCs with demons from the rifts, or is that a thing from the past?
Method 1: The handwave method. This one I've seen more often than I like, even in systems that aren't narrativist trash. While activating the FTL drive may have a complication, ultimately it's the magic "get us to the next plot location" button.
Method 2: The bad at math method. This one I have mostly seen in 90s and early 00s RPGs where they say shit like we're moving 2 times the speed of light!
Not realizing how fucking slow that is for an intergalactic campaign. Even better when they say that's only attainable outside of the gravity well of a star system.
Method 3: The autistic method. This one I see mostly in homebrews, where it's about acceleration factors and maximum shielding. Potentially the best but also requires having a calculator ready, heavily reducing its usefulness if your campaigns aren't on rails.

It is dedicated to discussing universal TTRPG system that are to small to have its own general.
/usgen/ rules:
1. We discuss only universal systems and related settings, which didn't have its own general. (So no D&D and no GURPS)

GURPS is a modular, adaptable system, capable of running a wide range of characters, settings, and play styles, with a level of detail varying from lightweight to completely autistic.
Optional rules allow you to emulate different genres with a single system, or even switch genres within a single game.

Are there any novels / settings that genuinely follow through? I mean like, the Second Apocalypse, where it's really as bleak as promised.
Can shoot confetti and honk the horn for either single target or area stun.
Will rape stunned characters for 1d4 health damage and similar reduction to mental attributes. If any of said attributes reach zero, victim becomes catatonic (incapacitated until attributes are recovered above zero).
Can be solitary, can stroll in packs. Simply hunt for victims, don't do much of anything else.
Which kind of creature should it be? Outsider, obviously, but which exactly? What plane?
The plan is before they can get to the root of the issue, they need to investigate and go through a series of strange and random events related to the eldritch in town, of varying weirdness and intensity as they all individually investigate and learn more. I post here requesting some random event ideas. There's meant to be two categories:

These should lead to combat encounters, expenditure of resources for self-preservation, HP loss, etc. Something is attacking them or someone else and they're intervening. Here's some I've already done:
>A group of skum (fish-men) climb out of the river right as a party member passes by
>A Hound of Tindalos pops out of a random alley corner and chases the party until something draws its attention and it fucks off into another corner
>A Hastur cultist picks out a party member for a sacrifice and tries to ambush them
>A wannabe inquisitor mistakes a party member FOR a cultist
>Non-violent:
Weird shit that should not prompt any combat resolution but give examples of how weird the town's getting. Some I've written up for that:
>A wall grows a pair of eyes and starts watching a passing party member.
>The back door of a house opens up and a modern car tire rolls out and into the water
>The ground starts depicting strange murals of eldritch cities
>Every cat in town approaches a party member and surrounds them, and one speaks out, saying they are being watched before scattering.
Consider this a dumping ground for weird small medieval fantasy Innsmouth style random event ideas.
My goal is to regularly run the 2nd table on nights where there's 8 or more players.
I'm still new to making monsters and encounters for DCC and I drag in a lot of design ideas from other games and editions. If anyone knows DCC balance (such as it is), how does this look? What level would you say it is? I'm afraid of giving the Wizard full spellcasting, otherwise he'd logically just spellburn all his stats to roll max Ray of Enfeeblement and end the encounter. The monster encounters are straight ports, I could add more monster-closet scare-traps, or skeleton dogs patrolling the property. I think I'm on to a good thing with the format, though.

Whenever you have a question or an obvious topic that you want to discuss, why is it so common that EVERYONE here tries to subvert your question, give advice unrelated to the topic, and to never address the thing you initially ask for?
For example, let's say you wanted to know which of the D20 SRD renditions does the best just of firearms for a steampunk setting. That's our example, you've come to /tg/ to ask, of the many ways people have seen numbers and tables expressed for steampunk firearms, which do they think is the best. The very first response you're going to get is ">D20 systems" or "You should just use GURPS instead!" or probably something along the lines of "Steampunk is for fags"
My question is, why can't people just answer the initial question? This isn't just a problem in 4chan or /tg/, this is everywhere online. No matter where you go, people that are into RPGs and board games and tg shit can't seem to just have a normal discussion and butt-out in the event that they don't really want to discuss the question at hand. Which of itself gets responses like, ">People that are social outcasts and into autistic hobbies don't know how to communicate", Well instead of just being sarcastic and snide about it, talk about it. WHY ARE THEY THAT WAY? TALK ABOUT IT. DON'T JUST GIVE A SNIPPY SMART-ASS COMMENT ABOUT IT, FUCKING TALK ABOUT IT. IF YOU DIDN'T WANT TO ACTUALLY HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT IT AND JUST WANTED TO BE AN ASSHOLE, THEN WHY DID YOU COME TO THIS THREAD IN THE FIRST PLACE? STOP BEING AN ASSHOLE!

Why do some people have such fucking double standards? It's ok to murder but rape is especially evil somehow?
What makes them so cool? What are the cool things that happened there, or the cool stuff to find in them? And what's the lore behind why they're so much bigger and fancier than your average fort?

There are actually long chapters and narration in response to your choices. All the books are set in the same world, so for example, in one series you can find side characters, or even protagonists, from the other books.
My favourite is Demon's choice for how unique it is (you play as a ruined succubus who was a villainess in Wizard's choice who lost all her political and most of her magical power due to the destruction of her patron deity, and she has to find a way to survive in the Abyss and eventually escape from it. Incredibly gruesome and tense).
My main issue with the series is how linear it is, it's Railroading: the game. Your choices don't really matter: you get a different page, with different stat bonuses in response to each action, but unless it leads your character's death there's no difference in the narrative or the endings. The only exceptions are the final chapters, those are the only one which give you a different ending.
It's somewhat replayable because some choices lead to very funny interactions, and achievements too, but there's a hard limit, I never played each book more than 10 times.
Basically, I want to run a campagin that apes the plot of Yugioh and other CCG tie-in shows. The players discover that the game they play is more than just a mere game, and that they can use their cards to summon monsters and do battle with evildoers.
However, I want to run this game without anything resembling CCG mechanics at all. Summoning monsters and casting spells in the real world with cards is completely different than using those cards in the game.
Is there any RPG that fits this niche I'm looking for?
