Arthas just had to not have a spergfit about his friends having completely understandable objections. If he had talked it out with them for ten seconds, one of two things would've happened: either they'd think of a better alternative, or they wouldn't. And if they wouldn't, they'd be persuaded that while difficult and painful, Arthas's proposal was the right one, and support him.

Instead Arthas just REEEEEEE's the moment he hears their understandably shocked reactions and kicks them off the team.
