>What were games like in the old days?

This was my experience in the 90s
>Get on bike, walk, or hitch a ride over to friend's house every other day
>Over the course of an hour everyone else would show up
>In the meantime you'd play comfy SNES, N64, or PS1 games
>Once everyone showed up you'd start playing some random RPG
>We didn't have much money for books back then, so our game was a weird amalgamation of books from different systems
>The two main people that ran were either Al or our friend's older brother Dan
>Al's game was a traditional Fantasy dungeon crawl with very loose interpretation of the rules. Basically cooperative make-believe
>Dan's game was a highly lethal space fantasy exploration game. Imagine Star Wars but with 90s anime tropes
>Our games were all inspired by saturday morning cartoons
>get to play for a couple hours before parents would call or come pick you up
>parents pissed that you're playing that satanic game again

This was my experience in the 00s
>walk or drive over to J's house each weekend
>He'd be playing some PS2 game or watching a movie/anime on DVD
>Everyone would gradually show up over the course of an hour
>Different formation of players would show up each time
>Some of them were "Squee! XD Glomp :3"-type of girls
>We would mostly play D&D 3rd edition or it's derivatives, sometimes we'd play other stuff
>Al was still DMing. His campaigns were more complex yet more short lived
>J would run games too, long meandering campaigns where we'd just fight stuff for hours
>We'd order a pizza, drink some beers, and play until like 3 in the morning before crashing on J's couch or sleeping on his floor
>The next day your dad would yell at you for being out playing those damn fairy tale games instead of getting a real job! Blockbuster ain't no real job! You need to work at a factory or in a office!

Honestly, it was a magical time, but it's not anything that I can convey in a single 4chan post.
