Bullshit. There's nothing stopping a bored heretic band for landing in the Caribbean and doing the Taino in. It would even need to be a big one, maybe a dozen guys armed with bolt action rifles to pull a Columbus. A hundred to take down Mesoamerica. There's no way centuries have passed without a few bored cultists deciding to look around for new raiding targets.
