they die from monsters
they die from trap they can supposedly handle
they die from npc enemies since they cannot fight in general
they die if they sneak and use backstab and not manage to outrigh kill the target sicne they cannot fight

to solve this they later made them into half-fighters or 3/4 Fighters (see 3e/3.5e and later on) and called them rogues but they were Fighters. So they are a just reject. If the rogue can "sneak" attack for +10d6 at level 20 then the warriors would breach attack for+ 30d6 at level 20, this is is stupid.

Same with bards they are in the later editions nothing but mages by another name plus some other stuff.

the very existence of the rogue/thief has ruined and degraded the game. You "need a thief for locks and traps", no i do not nor want to need one.

1 dm, 4 players; warrior, priest, mage plus another class but if its thief/rogue or bard its useless and you need 2 warriors
1 dm, 5 players warrior, priest, mage plus another 2 classes. 1 warrior and any other like druid (also multi class fighter/mage or cleric/mage) but not the thieves again as they are a joke.

no more thieves, no more rogues and no more bards.
