I don't think that's true across the board. I've been trying to rack my brain for the last few minutes, but I do remember hearing a story recently that someone who achieved greatness in something (I think it was a war general?) didn't start in that something until they were like 33.

I think what happens is if you are naturally inclined to greatness in something, you are more likely to start that something at a younger age. But I also think that some people who could achieve that greatness might have had that opportunity pass them by, then then they could just rejoin it and work on it later. Most people can push themselves up to the diminishing returns level of a talent within 2 years anyways, so starting as a kid I think doesn't really accomplish much other than overcome the weakness of being a child.
