technically, half-elves are superior to humans but still inferior to elves, as they may have a longer lifespan but still age and will die before their parents, helpful to establish maybe like a foothold in human society for monetary or diplomatic reasons, like an anchor baby, but ultimately a waste of resources, might make better mages (high-elf) or rangers (wood elf) than humans, but they can be seen and classified as fodder or a step to make more elves (like half-drow who'll just go back to breed with drow)
my biggest problem with such half-races is the implication that one half is always inferior to the other, consider half-dragons; a necessary stepping stone towards draconic sorcerers, but why would a dragon chose to mate with an inferior species? Ultimately such offspring are almost always tools created with ulterior motives in mind, which would ultimately benefit both parents
