You might like certain Japanese media, where there is a recurring story element where the center of the conflict is mutually exclusive existence. FF14, Nier, etc all have the source of the conflict functionally come down to "An older civilization is being replaced by its successor, and through no fault of their own they can't both survive. The new civilization has largely already replaced the old, but the remnants of the old want the world back and are willing to exterminate the new world to make way for their old one."
It creates a solid setup for both sides being the unambiguous heroes of their own stories, both sides fighting to protect everything they know and love but they can't both get what they want. Someone WILL lose everything in the end, its unavoidable.
