Because hanging around here and seeing various anons’ dogshit opinions and the occasional nugget of gold is an engaging experience. The amount of contrarian garbage on this website is a feature, not a bug, because it forces you to actually engage your brain and think about what you’re reading, rather than being able to passively consume it and press a button that indicates your approval. The bile and negativity can be tiring at times, it’s true, but that very negativity is so important as a way to get inspired to do things properly yourself.

The problem with the other -chan options is that they’re all TOO steeped in negativity because their raison d’être is opposition to the current state of the rest of the internet. 4chan is old enough to predate most of that, so our negativity is mixed with actual passion about our subject matters. People aren’t just calling me a faggot to be shocking, they’re calling me a faggot because they’ve read my homebrew and they have opinions on it.
