Exactly this. I check out a few of the clones every so often. They don't have the inventory, so they don't have the shoppers, so they don't have the inventory. You have to break that cycle somehow and arguably the easiest way is to make it more attractive to sell there. But they're all putting the cart before the horse with demands before they've earned anything.

Take Bonanza, for instance. Lots of people left eBay over problems with PayPal (or, generally, being forced into any processor). What does Bonanza do? Require PayPal.

Mercari, like I said, had a shot. They didn't require PayPal. But fee parity, not to mention fees on withdrawing your own money, sunk that. The fee shifting, while I think it's easier for sellers because you know what you'll get upfront, even I knew buyers were going to see it as "more fees" even though it technically wasn't.

Don't even get me started on Amazon. Everything bad about eBay is worse there. Also any store like Walmart that has a marketplace, yikes. Not worth the massive amount of hassle.
