Sorry, I'm very tired. It's not just Hasbro that I want to return to making TOY toys, but Mattel as well. Playmates have stayed pretty consistent, though quality is up and down depending on the release.
Talking specifically Hasbro though, Hasbro for the most part are split in different directions. Looking at Star Wars, throughout the 90s Star Wars figures were still very much aimed at kids, they were over-the-top 90s stuff, but very quickly they started improving things, adding more articulation with swivel elbows and knees, the hinge and swivel, and balljoints, and up until The Legacy Collection things were solid, we were getting figures that kids could still play with but were detailed enough (if a bit wonky at times) for adult collectors, we got vehicles with lights and sounds at standard retail, it was all pretty sweet. Then around 2010/2012 things get weird, Hasbro starts making noise about plastic being expensive, and they scale back the quality HARD, figures go back to 5POA, sculpts turn to dogshit, paint apps are the bare minimum, and they introduce The Black Series at both 3.75 and 6 inch scales. Suddenly what was the standard for SW figures at 3.75 is slapped with a premium price tag, which would continue over to the next 3.75 line the relaunch of The Vintage Collection. Now Hasbro is making all Star Wars figures with adult collectors as the primary focus, vehicles are now rare, the quality control is weak, and despite the amount of articulation the plastic on a lot of joints feels gummy.
Then last year they launch the Star Wars version of the Epic Hero Series, which is a basic 4 inch scale (not 3.75) 5POA line. I have a couple figures and I reckon they're awesome, but they aren't the same quality as basic retail kids toys from even 20 years ago. And the Star Wars Epic Hero line is the better subline of the Epic Hero Series. The Marvel figures are absolute garbage.
